excellent 10 Dec 2011

This book is I found very good with the pitures showing the person doing the carvings and the explaining of how to do it. I would personally recommend this to people who have done a bit of carving before but don't let my review put you beginners off buying this book, as it has an excellent explaintions on tools to use. Trust me you don't need alot of chisels to start carving. Just remember to always wear a glove and enjoy it.

I am still struggling with this book. It has lots of drawings, lots of tips and should be a real help to a beginner like me. I'll be honest, I don't know why I don't rate the book, it just doesn't "ring any bells". Not a lot of help I know.

carving for the beginner 30 Dec 2005
By lovewood - Published on Amazon.com

Loved the book but wish he had included a list of good places to find and brands of tools that work best. Also wish he had included a western type dragon besides the oriental one. Good book even for beginners since he shows step by step how to carve all the included designs.

Beatuful, fully illustrated book 4 Jan 2008

Over sized paperback book with hundreds of color pictures and a dozen legitimate templates. - Unicorn, Fairie, Wizard, Gryphon, Dragon, Mermaid and more. Complete guidelines for painting them too.

This book won't turn you into a professional wood carver but if you want a book that will help you learn while giving you some really attractive fantasy carvings to work from then this is it.

If you want to make these figures you have to keep in mind that you need some decent carving tools and a scrollsaw.

Wonderful Carving Book w/Great Pictures! Highly Recommended! 7 Feb 2009
By C. F. Hill - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
"Carving Fantasy & Legend Figures in Wood" is a great book for the entry level or intermediate carver. I am just starting out in carving and found the projects challenging, but not out of reach.

The sections on tools and finishes are a little light and I would have liked more information, but there are other books that cover these areas better.

The pictures throughout the book are just fantastic and are very helpful! This really helped me a lot!

Highly Recommended!
