Book Description

18 May 2012 Footprint Focus Guide
Imagine a Spanish colonial city and the following scene will spring to mind: peach-coloured cathedrals surrounded by rustic terraces with wrought-iron balconies and, in the distance, a stone-wall fortress with sturdy canons facing out to sea. Welcome to Cartagena - one of the oldest colonial cities in the Americas, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and, given its location on the Caribbean Sea, a popular beach resort.

Footprintfocus Cartegena and Caribbean Coast will guide you along the Caribbean coastline from elegant colonial cities to snowcapped mountains, pristine beaches and pure wilderness.

* Featuring advice on how to visit the lost city Ciudad Perdida
* Up-to-date recommendations of great places to stay and eat
* Go diving, trek through the jungle, or enjoy a yacht ride in the Caribbean sea
* Highlights map of the region plus detailed street maps where relevant
* Includes information on Barranquilla, home to South America's second biggest carnival
* Slim enough to fit in your pocket

Packed with thoroughly researched information, Footprintfocus Cartegena and Caribbean Coast is full of meticulously researched information and advice on travelling around a region which is home to one of South America's oldest colonial cities and most popular beach resorts.

With a recommendation by Michael Palin I thought this would be a good buy. There is information in the book but no pictures and it is all presented in rather an unimaginative style. Factual without much in the way of recommendations etc.

2.0 out of 5 stars Minimally informative 24 Sep 2012

I have been to Bogota and going to Cartagena in November. I couldn't find a good guidebook 2 years ago (when I was is Bogota) and haven't found one yet. The country guidebooks coverage are an inch deep and a mile wide. So I was hoping the "Footprint Focus" on Cartagena would be the answer. Better to tear out a few pages from a country guidebook and print info off the internet. Less than 20 small pages actually devoted to Cartagena and most of those are simple listings of hotel and restaurants. I don't know why there are aren't any good guidebooks to Columbia. One would think it's name ends in "stan."

This travel book was extremely useful for Cartagena, Colombia. We stayed in the old walled city and found it very helpful.
