A journey from darkness to spiritual realization, 23 July 2005
By A Customer
This review is from: Carry Me Home: A Personal Story About Tragedy, Transformation and the Search for True Wholeness (Hardcover)
Carry Me Home begins with a terrible personal tragedy and then weaves an intimate journey of healing and acceptance to spiritual wholeness. Lucas was brought up as an atheist - cynical about all things spiritual. At seventeen, she suffered a terrible accident that killed her mother and left her emotionally scared. This is the inspiring story of how a brave and determined woman transmuted pain and guilt into a spiritual realization that shines through at the end. The journey is not easy and take a long time, but it is a journey that she successfully makes. You will find no dogma here, just an honest and open account of the process of individuation that we all face at some point in our spiritual evolution. Lucas writes beautifully in a book that I found as engrossing as it was rewarding.

A Spiritual and Psychological Gem, 26 Oct 2005
This review is from: Carry Me Home: A Personal Story About Tragedy, Transformation and the Search for True Wholeness (Hardcover)
In this little gem of a book, which will delight anyone who is seriously interested in living a more awakened life, Catherine Lucas weaves a compelling tale of personal tragedy, growth, strength, and hope. A powerful account of Lucas's own life story, Carry Me Home seamlessly combines a gripping narrative with penetrating psychological and spiritual insights that I found both instructive and enchanting. After describing how mainstream culture's advice on how to heal from horrific personal loss (stiff upper lip, work hard, forget about it, get on with you life) failed and betrayed her, Lucas unfolds her discovery of the many unspoken and undiscovered truths that only life and her own open heart could teach her. By seeking truth ahead of respectability, and even ahead of feeling better, she was led to real healing--and real knowledge of her own true self. The integrity with which Lucas reveals the unvarnished facts of her own journey is stunningly refreshing. I found it to be an enthralling and enlightening read by a master story-teller and teacher.

Carry Me Home by Catherine Lucas, 22 Feb 2007
What happens when a girl not only is next to her mother when she is killed in a car accident but also believes she is responsible for her death? How does the human psyche make sense of this kind of tragedy? This is a story of how one young woman struggles to carry on her life in the aftermath of her mother's death. This is a story of a soul seeking peace and discovering God. It is a beautifully written account of a journey of uncovering that connection to the Divine, to the deepest self and to the world.
Catherine's story has had a profound effect on me in that it has confirmed my belief that no matter what happens to us in life there is an intelligence deep within us that sustains and survives.
