Synopsis
The final film in the long running British comedy series, CARRY ON COLUMBUS features the same combination of broad humour in a genre or historical setting as its predecessors. Christopher Columbus (Jim Dale) believes he has found a way to reach the Far East without travelling through the lands of the greedy Sultan of Turkey. Convincing the Spanish King and Queen of the merit of his idea, he sets sail to the West. But the Sultan, not about to let his trading routes be circumvented, sends his finest spy, the luscious Fatima, to stop Columbus using any means necessary. CARRY ON COLUMBUS contains enough bawdy humour and slapstick to be considered a worthy end to the classic comedy series.

The only carry on that really does not work...why?

Well for a start most of the cast had passed away, leaving Jim Dale with a bunch of newbies who were not brought up in old school comedy.

Like most other tv / film updates, the film completely fails to capture the era and essence of the carry on film.

A complete disaster, buy Carry on Dick instead.

Reviving the Carry On series after the deaths of many of the actors most associated with it was always going to be difficult. The film almost works, but suffers from the problem common to many British ensemble comedies of having too many comedians and one liners, but not quite enough humour. Still it does feature the immensely likeable Jim Dale and there are enough laughs to pass the time pleasantly enough.

The best thing about this film is when the end credits roll.I'm a huge carry on fan & this film really shouldn't have been given the "Carry On" title.
I think one of the main downfalls of the film was that it's cast were all well know actors & actresses.With the likes of Sid,Hattie,Joan,Kenny Wiiliams,Charlie Hawtrey & Bernie Bresslaw all sadly passed,the title of "Carry On" cast should've been laid to rest with them.
The only real reason to buy this is if,like me,you have all the other films in the collection.
