Bump support 5 Feb 2009
By Ambly
Colour Name:Black|Size Name:X-Large
This is one of very few supports for the whole bump. I bought this to replace the huge piece of tubigrip my physio gave me. It's comfortable, stays in place and doesn't cause overheating. Unfortunately the depth of the support at the back isn't enough for the support I need on 'bad' days, and I'm only 5' 4", so the tubigrip is still in use!

When I got to 22 weeks pregnant I began to feel the weight of my bump, and realised that I was starting to hold onto it for support when I was walking around, so decided to try one of the belly support things available.

Originally I tried the Carriwell maternity support top, but found that there was just an excess of material between the bra part and the belly part which simply did not work, so instead decided to go for the support band instead, and I must say it has really done its job well.

The band itself is simply a seamless bit of lycra-type material, with some ridges in chosen places to help support your bump. It sits just under your bump, with the back riding a little higher so that it doesn't ride up with your jeans. The material is soft, and the band is virtually unnoticable under even the tightest of clothes, so you can get away with it under just about anything. It's also really comfortable - you hadrdly notice you're wearing it, and because its so non-intrusive, you can also wear it in bed, which has been a great help because I found that my muscles were straining when I tried to turn over.

The only downsides to the product are that it does bobble, and it bobbles on both the inside and outside, although you can't feel it too much when it's on, and it also seems to get moisturiser stuck to it in bobbles as well somehow. The other thing is that it doesn't last for long. I started wearing one at week 22, and by week 25 I could tell that it wasn't working quite so well anymore, and that walking was quickly becoming painful for my stomach muscles again, leading me to need to buy another different support belt for my growing bump. Nexcare Elastic Pregnancy Belly/Bump Support - Size 8-18.

The good thing is that this belt did it's job really well for three weeks, and is still great for wearing in bed. It can also be worn underneath another bump support belt to stop any irritation to your skin as it is really nice material, and can be worn mearly to cover the gap between non-maternity tops and bottoms. Overall, I'd say it was well worth the money, and great for light support from week 22.

Looking at the picture of the product I didn't think it would give much support, but looking at the others on the market, this one looked the most normal! It has a surprising amount of support. I'd been in hospital for 5 days due to a muscle being stretched by the baby, I could barely walk/move as it was so painful. I bought this support band and I have to say my recovery happened very quickly after. I wore it day and night for the first few days and it helped so much! I wear it intermitenly now but I do find it helps carry the 'load' for me!

Would I recommend...? Definitly! I'm normally a size 12-14, so having read the other reviews bought a 14-16, this was a good idea, as I think the smaller one would have been too tight. Afterall it is a support band, so it is a bit tight.

Definitely worth £11 :0)

Not v ery useful
Not as useful as I hoped. The lower part rolls up when you walk or sit. The support is not very good. I ended up getting a proper belt from a physiotherapist.
