Steve is a young man ostracised by the small isolated community of sleepy rock in the belief that he started the fire that killed his parents. As a result steve sleeps in a small shack out on the outskirts of town and spends most of his time drinking Jack daniels. One night a strange black beast attacks steve and claws his chest before steve manages to kill the monster with his shotgun, leaving him with a terible disease that causes anything he touches to become highly corrosive to living things. Pretty soon townfolk are melting everywhere and the small community descends into anarchy, feudal warfare and religious hysteria as the townsfolk search for the carrier.
Once again code red have unearthed a real gem, more so in this case because like messiah of evil Messiah of Evil: Second Coming [DVD] [1973] [Region 1] [US Import] [NTSC] the film actually manages to trancend its low budget grindhouse roots to become a bonafide genre classic. The script is smart, funny and very grim in places and the acting is for the most part very good indeed. The film is very well shot BY DP peter deming who worked on evil dead 2 and several other sam raimi alumni also get credits including Joeseph deluca who provides the films excellent score and the sound mix done by none other than the legend BRUCE CAMPBELL!!! (yep THE bruce campbell, unfortunately no cameo though.) To add to the sam raimi connections the audio commentary with director Nathan J white also includes scott spiegel.
Commentry aside the film is lacking any other bonus features but the transfer is Excellent and this is a horror film I cannot reccomend highly enough. Seriously the disc is ntsc but region 0 so should play on most uk players that can support ntsc. Seriously buy it!

In a small town in 1950's America, there is an outbreak of a terrible disease where infected inamimate objects become deadly carriers, which melt the unfortunate victims. Choosing to see the disease as a message from God, the townspeople choose to ignore the scientific advice from the local doctor(Steve Dixon) and divide into two warring tribes, wrapped in plastic protective clothing and soon all semblance of civilization breaks down. Cats are pivotal in this new world order.
One man, social outcast Jake Spear(Gregory Fortescue) remains distant from these small town politics, but Jake has a few secrets of his own, having been blamed for the death of his parents in a fire.
If I was to describe this film as bizarre that would be an understatement. It's like a lost episode of The Waltons directed by David Lynch has been dug up. A beguiling mix of social satire, a commentary on science versus religion and an apocalyptic horror, The Carrier works because of its bonkers premise, as it is totally original in every way. It also happens to be incredibly well shot and for the most part the special effects are very impressive. The only aspect of the film that is a bit of a let down is some uneven acting by some of the cast. However, this can be forgiven in an inventive, low budget horror film.
I wouldn't go as far as describing The Carrier as a lost masterpiece rescued from obscurity by Code Red. It is, however, a constantly engaging little oddity full of ideas, humour and imagination that is well worth investing in. There is a director's commentary on this region 0 release which is very entertaining and the main extra on the disc. 4 out of 5.

Nice AIDS parable disguised as a horror film. I don't want to give the plot away because this is a one of a kind horror film.

I don't know how this movie escaped me for so many years...it is truly an awesome find for any lovers of 70's/80's "B" movie trash. It unfortunately seems to now be out of print by code red.The plot starts off in a small town where a social pariah, accused by the majority of townsfolk of intentionally killing his family, gets attacked by a disease-carrying monster. I'll leave the plot description at that but this movie quickly spins out of control at a dizzying pace.I was able to view a copy and immediately had to own it, can't believe this incredibly weird film has eluded me all these years. Highly recommended for fans of the bizarre!Carrier

So bad its good... on so many levels 14 Feb. 2011
By Steelwerks - Published on Amazon.com

Carriers is a mixed bag of horror, comedy and bad acting. Overall though its a decent story with ridiculous dialogue and events. The first time i saw this i couldn't really believe what i was seeing. Its starts off fairly normal like most B-horror movies, then goes off the deep end. before you know it you have garbage bag wearing factions fighting over who gets the cats... if that doesn't intrigue you i don't know what will. "Bring out the Cats!"
