5.0 out of 5 stars The pop album of 2006...no contest 13 Sep 2006
By russell clarke TOP 500 REVIEWER VINE VOICE
Format:Audio CD
It's clear within twenty seconds of opening track "Carried Away" kicking in that this is going to be a wondrous pop experience. The song crashes in on a choral swell of quite unprecedented majesty and revels in epiphanies and glorious surges. Quite ravishing and that's only the first track. More mind bogglingly the rest of the album lives up to and in one or two instances surpasses that wonderful opening. Help it's the end of the first paragraph and already I am running out of superlatives for this album.

Shamefully this is the first Ooberman album I have ever purchased. Reading the blurb on the back of the CD case it appears that the band split after their last album "Hey Petrunko"in 2003, but after various solo efforts has reformed for this album. Thank who ever for that, for it is likely that without this release the band would have passed me by entirely.

Make no mistake this is the most fulsome multi-layered pop experience you will have this year. The latest albums by The Sleepy Jackson and The Russian Futurists have moments of incandescent beauty and the new Hidden Cameras album is hugely enjoyable and barmily tantalising but this is so consistently wondrous that if anything surpasses it I will probably explode with excitement.

Revelling in harmonies the size of Martian cathedrals, arrangements that glow like luminescent algae coupled with whales and a natural effortless grasp of pop dynamics that recalls bands like The Chills or Win Ooberman have produced 12 songs so ace it seems churlish to separate them for any reason.

OOberman are back together, and this new album doesn't fail to impress. For those who haven't heard of them before the split, and the great songs like "sugarbum", "moth" and "seritonin smile" you don't know what you've been missing out on. An amazing band live, I saw them a couple of times at the charlotte in leicester.

If you like magic numbers, snow patrol or goldfrapp you are going to love ooberman. Go buy all there albums now, you won't regrette it.
