This book is all you need to create beautiful carpets and rugs of all shapes, sizes and designs, whatever the size or period of the house. The historical and style details of each piece are given, with suggestions for where each one could go in the dolls house. There are 25 stitched projects, with several variations based on the originals. Each project has a short introduction explaining the techniques used, and ways of adapting the design. There is a wide selection of canvas sizes and fabrics, with stitches including tent stitch, cross stitch and a variety of other stitches to cater for all abilities. Charts for alternative colour ways or designs are regularly included. All the designs have symbol-on-colour stitching charts, and materials, tools and techniques are fully explained, accompanied by step-by-step diagrams and photographs.
About the Author
Sue Hawkins began her career restoring seventeenth-century English embroidery. She now designs for and runs her own successful kit manufacturing company, Needleworks. Sue teaches embroidery workshops around the country, many on behalf of the Cross Stitch Guild, of which she is technical director. This is her fourth book with David & Charles. Sue lives in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire.

This is a good project book. There are lots of ideas, and the diagrams and charts are easy to follow. Each project includes a short intro, for example, a little about that style and it's history. Suggestions are made as to where in the dolls house the carpet/rug could be placed. Stitches, materials, tools, etc. are explained well, with good diagrams and photographs throughout. The projects in this book cover many time periods for decorating, but most are suitable for adapting.

This book has beautiful full color diagrams which makes it easy to follow the design. Your rugs will look like a pro made them if you just follow the directions.

Fantastic results. Classic patterns along with modern, oriental and Persian. Nicer than I've seen so far than the machine made rugs. Even has patterns for entry welcome mats.
