This was the first book I've read in this series and maybe I was expecting a little more, but I confess I found this book to be rather disappointing. When I first saw this book I maybe foolishly assumed it would be a biography of sorts, but instead the book is basically a list of his films in chronological order, each of which has a description of the plot and a critical review. As a fan of Carpenter's work I found the book enjoyable and interesting, but I was hoping to find out more about the man himself rather than just a series of reviews, and there is almost no biographical content. Those who expect a reference book may also be disappointed as the book only provides cursory information about the films, such as the main cast members, the duration, and the usual credits (writer, director, producer, composer) and little else.
All in all I enjoyed reading about some of these films again, and hearing the opinions of the authors, but if you're expecting a biography or a reference book, or a description of his techniques you may well be disappointed.
