It's hard to imagine any album of waltzes without the waltz king Johann Strauss Jr. included.(or one of his relatives) This collection does just that. With the swagger and panache of the players we get a sampling from other composers seemingly just as comfortable in the field. By this disc's 50 or so minutes conclusion one will hardly miss him. This program is pleasantly drawn from waltz extracts of the stage and screen, making for a novel experience. Oh yes! Franz Lehar's "Merry Widow" Waltz, is included as the sole Viennese contribution. Though recorded with a hodge-podge of English players and orchestras, the sum of the parts adds up coherently. Each group brings their special touch to these melodic minatures. There is nothing heavy to speak of here. Just pick this one up if you desire a light rewarding listen.
