5.0 out of 5 stars A Touching, non taxing read, 15 Oct 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Carousel (Paperback)
An excellent read if one is seeking light relief from everyday life and stresses. The plot is easy to follow and the meaning is charmingly un obtrusive. Prues character is enjoyable to follow, although the only downfall would be that the end is a little unbelievable. Overall I would reccomend this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pilcher: a good formula, 18 Jun 2009
By Larky (Europe) - See all my reviews
For those of you who have read Rosemunde Pilcher novels before, then you will know what you are in for: lead characters (usually female) with whom one can empathize and who has a dilemma or two she is struggling with; a strong romantic streak running through the plot line; plenty of supporting characters who are remarkably admirable; lots of lovely evocative and descriptive narrative passages; and most importantly of all, a happy ending.

Pilcher certainly attracts her critics. One does not have to work very hard when reading a Pilcher novel, but if you are feeling somewhat down or in the mood for something towards the lighter scale of things, then you cannot go wrong with her novels. They are guaranteed to make you feel better. Just put your brain in neutral and go with a nice, lovely flow that will leave you happy and content in the end.

3.0 out of 5 stars Ideal Read if Recovering From an Illness, 25 April 2008
By Mrs. A. L. Maddocks - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I read this book whilst I was recovering from bronchitis and found it a very relaxing read, that didn't require too much brain activity.

I have to agree with the other lady in so much as that it doesn't have the same depth as The Shell Seekers, hence giving it three stars.

I would recommend this book for anyone who just wants a nice relaxing read.

Good for a relaxed read. When trying to find books for my 93 year old mother this fits the bill extremely well

2.0 out of 5 stars Light and pleasant; escapist
Light reading; not as interesting or involving as The Shell-seekers.
