Its always tempting to think that Robin Guthrie won't be able to do any more with his beautiful brand of noise but he has confounded expectations again. Granted I am already one of the converted and bought noth Imperial and Continental, however this set of pieces is exceptionally lovely. My favourite is 'Some sort of Paradise' which shimmers gently and rises and falls beautifully to caress and sooth your soul. I'm also very partial to 'Sparkle' which, to me, is a chilled version of Angelo Badalementi - but with a beautiful harmonic and melodic structure which positions it very much in mainstream music rather than soundtrack-land. Every track has it's own secret magic and one run through of this album is enough to chill you for the rest of the day - I like to listen to it on busy trains where it neutralises all the stresses and annoyances.
If this all sounds like hyperbole then I urge to try it out for yourself.
I recently emailed Robin on his mySpace site to suggest that his music should be available on prescription as it has the ability to calm and soothe you after even the most stressful day - totally drug-free... It's well worth the money for that alone. Thanks Robin! Neil
