Many children struggle memorising their times tables. It is important though, and children will need be able to multiply numbers easily in their head to move on to more advanced maths. I home educate my children, so this was purchased as part of our maths curriculum. I feel it would be equally useful, perhaps even more useful for children who are struggling to keep up in this subject in school. As a home educator, if my child doesn't grasp a subject, we can stop and go over it until he does. In a classroom, the rest of the class will eventually move on and a child that has not mastered one step may be left behind in others.

This set consists of:
1. A 32 page workbook. This is a simple black and white book, which reminds me in many ways of Kumon Maths. There are no unnecessary illustrations, just plenty of exercises. There is a current trend to try to makes maths more fun by dressing it up with stickers, cartoon characters and jokes. This book goes back to an older style of simply working on maths skills. This suits me, it means there is plenty of content on the subject at hand. This may be bland, but it is a very useful well written work book.

2. Audio cd. This is just a recording of times tables repeated over and over (each set 4 x) set to music. The music is not nearly as loud as the chanted times tables, making it a nice background. I have purchased and thrown away other times tables cds.It seems such a simple thing to get right, I'm glad Carol Vorderman went with simple and effective.

3.Hidden Answers Game. Again, this is quite a simple device. It is just a set of cards with the questions on one side and the answer printed in a red strip. You slide down a small red window to reveal the hidden answer.

I am a teaching assistant who works one on one with a ten year old with mild cerebal palsy. I bought this pack to help him learn his tables. My initial assesment was it looked to be exactly what I was looking for, but after trying to work with the child, it was not as good as I thought. He loved the sound track (which I found a bit monotonous)and the wall chart was great, as it helped him to keep up on the more difficult numbers, but he had difficulty with the fridge magnets as they are tiny and far too fiddley as he has poor co-ordination and grip. I took them home and asked my seven year old to play with them and he too found them difficult to manover, so I guess they should be bigger. There are also individual tables cards in a holder which are quite useful.

I bought this for my son, who's had real difficulty with his timestables, mainly because he found it a very boring task. The cd has been absolutely brilliant. He has been dancing round the room, while saying the timestables. In fact, i've found myself dancing round the room to the funky beat! (I don't get out that much!!!) In less than a week he has shown such improvement. I'm only sorry i didn't know about it sooner. I haven't used the workbooks or fridge magnets yet, so cannot comment on those. Definitely worth the money and less heartache for me.

I have a son in year 2. He has been covering the times tables in class this year and though we did learn the 2, 5 and 10 times tables over the summer holidays before year 2, lack of practise meant he soon forgot. I wanted to buy him an audio CD thinking that playing it in the car on school runs atleast would mean we would get daily practise in as thats really the only way to remember them. I came across this box set and thought it looked quite good. I never really got around to using it though until these easter holidays and it has been fantastic. All the extra things have been fantastic learning tools and i have barely even used the CD that i had originally purchased it for! the star chart is a great motivation; gold stars never fail to boost morale! and the hidden numbers game is a great way to engage my son to self-test and repeat a set on his own. in fact the hidden numbers concept is so simple but attractove that my year 1 daughter loves to pick it up and go over the 2 times tables withi t herself, and has almost memorised it too! once my son is confident i test him, and if he seems solid enough then we have the quick-wit work book which progresses very well. it starts off with the 2, 5 and 10 times tables as they are easiest to learn and tests in a straight forward manner, but as the child progresses to the 6 times tables and beyond, it moves beyond just the numerical sum, to verbal questions e.g how many days are there in 6 weeks...therefore the child applies the knowledge of the times tables to actual practical circumstances, so im very pleased at how the work book progresses too. There are fridge magnets too. these are quite tiny if you decide to take each one apart, so i havent and we just have the whole table up on the side of the fridge.Read more ›

This is a fabulous pack to get as it has everything in it to help teach
your child the times table, and its fun. My daughter loves listening to the cd as its to music and you have to say the answer before they do.
It also has a workbook ,and magnectic times table . I would recommend it
for any child as its fun as you learn.
