There were some really good at maths girls in my class who were annoying the rest doing some really good times at Sudoku. My teacher in maths sets sudoku at the beginning of the lesson. My Dad, who's really into Sudoku, bought me this book, and now I'm a hero. I can beat them hollow. Ha ha ha. Carol Vorderman rocks.

This book has everything. My time for fiendish (or super-difficult as this book calls them) has more than halved - down from 50 minutes to just 20 minutes. There are lots of pieces of logic that I've read elsewhere but didn't understand before I read this book. She has written it brilliantly and in a friendly way unlike the nerdy bits that appear on the web sometimes. I'd recommend this to anyone who wants to go to a higher level or just wants to cut their time down for each puzzle.

For its modest price, this is a brilliant book for beginners. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars was the claim on the front cover to show me how to be a "Sudoku master". The so called super difficult puzzles are not, in fact, all that difficult and are not rated above medium or hard by a computer program I now use. If you want to learn about solving techniques like Swordfish, X-Wings, Forcing Chains, etc you will need to look elsewhere. That said, this book is a really good place to start - great to take on holiday with you, or for a rainy day.

hmmmm, not much new
The Sudokus are nice. But the so-called 'techniques'... are not exactly new or exciting. In fact, there wasn't one single technique which I hadn't sorted out myself yet.
