Review

"The quixotic quest at the heart of Carnivorous Nights is more than just endearing and engrossing, it's inspiring." JONATHAN SAFRAN FOER "Alexis Rockman and the thylacine are two of the most fascinating critters that have ever prowled the woods of Tasmania or the galleries and basketball courts of New York. Put them together, and you're off on a roaring adventure." DAVID QUAMMEN author of The Song of the Dodo: Biogeography in the age of extinctions"

Product Description

A colourful, comical yet true account of the search for the near mythical Tasmanian Tiger. The last known Tasmanian Tiger died in Hobart Zoo in 1936. This sleek, carnivorous marsupial hasn't been seen (alive) since and is considered to have been hunted to extinction. But when Brooklyn naturalists Margaret Mittelbach and Michael Crewdson stumbled across an ancient stuffed tiger in their local Natural History museum, they were immediately smitten. With their friend, artist Alexis Rockman, they embarked upon a treasure hunt to try to find surviving tigers in the Tasmanian jungle. Journeying through the intoxicating landscape, they encountered Tasmanian devils and wombats, fervent tiger hunters and bushrangers, and scientists who could have come straight from Jurassic Park. Illustrated with Rockman's artwork - originally crafted from organic materials picked up on the journey - this hugely engaging book vividly brings the tiger back to life, and recounts the story of a charming and hilarious expedition.
