Hobbs and Shelley were THE Holmes and Watson of the BBC from 1952 to 1969. Many think they are still the definitive portrayals of the characters on the radio. The Hobbs' Holmes is logical and incisive, but does retain a sense of humor and an obvious affection for his chronicler. Shelley's Watson is the sturdy British doctor, fond of his more intellectual friend, but not by any means the "boobus-britannicus" offered by other players.
This collection offers a small selection of the recordings from various years, previously available only on cassette. It is nicely restored to clear, artifact free, sound quality and has short but informative introductions by Nicholas Utechin, former editor of the Sherlock Holmes Journal. A must for those who enjoy full cast radio drama and Holmes. I can't wait for more of these classic recordings.
