Product Description

Product Description

Bugs, insects or creepy crawlies whatever we call them, theyre miniature marvels who live out their fascinating lives mostly hidden from sight. Here in this imaginative book of 17 songs complete with CD, many of our favourites come out of the undergrowth or down from the skies to reveal characters, predicaments and sticky situations we can all identify with and enjoy.

Delightfully unsentimental and wry, youll meet the Slow, Slow Snail being eyed by a hungry thrush, hear the melodic song of the Can of Worms as they wriggle by a babbling brook and listen to the beautiful Ladybugs Lullaby to calm and soothe at the close of the day.

The book is released just in time for National Insect Week, which runs from 25 June. Organised by the Royal Entomological Society, National Insect Week is designed to involve children in the insect world in all its fascinating diversity.

From the Carl Davis Collection, with music by Carl Davis, words by Hiawyn Oram and illustrations by Satoshi Kitamura, this charming new version of A CREEPY CRAWLY SONGBOOK with CD will bring musical fun and wonder to every home, car and classroom.

Featuring the voice of Sarah Eyden with the children of Eton Wick C of E First School, accompanied by Carl Davis and Catherine Edwards on the piano, with Stephen Henderson and Gary Kettle on percussion, this enchanting book is aimed at Early Years and Key Stage 1 children, aged from 3-7 and fulfils the criteria of Mini Beasts in the school curriculum.

5.0 out of 5 stars Colorful illustrations, clever poems and music score are fun 6 April 2013
By Steven I. Ramm - Published on Amazon.com
Composer and conductor Carl Davis is best known for the music he has written for BBC television series as well as the feature film "The French Lieutenant's Woman". In this Book/CD package, he adds music to the poems by South-African born children's book author Hiawyn Oram and colorful illustrations by Japanese-born illustrator Satoshi Kitamura. The 17 poems/songs are short but clever. All have to do with "insects" from the "Busy Bee" to the fleas in "Flea Circus" and the worms (not quite insects , but you know what I mean) in "Can of Worms", There are spiders, ladybirds, snails and a praying mantis. While most have a low-impact, almost generic, score, two of the "songs" stood out for me. "Mama Mosquito's Midnight Whine" is a terrific blues piece and "The Lament of the House Fly", has very clever lyrics.

The 32-page hardbound book has the 56-minute CD inserted in the back cover. The songs - sung by soprano Sarah Eyden with a Children's Choir backing her on some of the tracks - fill the first half of the CD; the balance consists of instrumental versions of the 17 songs.
I did find that on the tracks with the Choir sometimes were hard to clearly hear the words, but they are printed in the book so you can follow along. I think parents who read to their children or who have children who are just starting to read, would enjoy this package - I have no children, and I did. Creepy crawly things are something the kids can easily relate to.

I hope you found this review both informative and helpful.
