Product Description

Product Description

This is a comprehensive Caribbean cookbook with over 400 recipes, some originals plus new recipes created in the Caribbean style of cooking. Many recipes come from the author's restaurant, 'The Cove' in Barbados. The book is written in the style of a family memoir as the author tells of gatherings and cooking experiences throughout her life. The book includes some of the author's biography, hints and substitutes concerning food preparation, and a glossary of Caribbean foods. Each chapter is colour-coded in bright Caribbean colours and contains a little story followed by the appropriate recipes and food photography. The pages are illustrated with original watercolour art sketches done by the author's father, Gordon Parkinson, who is an artist well known throughout the Caribbean. The book is printed in large font for ease of reading, with recipes that are easy to follow. It also contains a page at the end entitled 'My own recipes' for you to add any new or given Caribbean recipes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous! Greatest Cookboook Ever!, 12 May 2010
By M. SEHEULT - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Caribbean Recipes "Old and New" (Hardcover)
"Caribbean Recipes" is a classic cookbook. Each selection is so well illustrated, you feel that dinner is now being served. The author has added scenic water color paintings of local artist Gordon Parkinson that you can almost feel the cool ocean breezes as you page thru the book. She also adds personal comments about her local vendors and even her own family members that you feel you already know them. It's a must for anyone who enjoys cooking. By the way, the food is absolutely delicious. Don't beleive me, ask the dishes!!

This is a truly stunning cookbook. Very colorful with many pictures of the dishes already prepared for your viewing pleasure.
The pages are a nice smooth texture and just thumbing through it will make your mouth water.

If you're into Caribbean cooking, this is THE cookbook.

Get one for yourself, it's a collector's item.

5.0 out of 5 stars It has got to be the best!, 25 April 2007
By Jon M. Derr - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Caribbean Recipes "Old and New" (Hardcover)
I really can't make up my mind whether it's the best book on Caribbean cooking I've ever seen, or the best book on Caribbean art I've ever seen. With that said, I'll have to state that it's the best book on Caribbean cooking AND Caribbean art I've ever seen!
