5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it 13 Nov 2006
Format:Paperback
When I went to my book stash looking for something easy to read I had a few to choose from but the sparkly bits on `Be Careful What You Wish For' caught my eye so out it came. I'd seen mixed reviews about this book but I'm glad it was the one I chose as it fitted my mood perfectly. After a series of heavy reads I needed something light and fluffy and `Be Careful What you Wish For' gave me just that. Its chick lit but it's amusing in a `Shopaholic' kinda way. I for one giggled along through it just like I did with the Shopaholic books and I've found nothing since Shopaholic to give me a really good giggle so I was surprised to find this one did.

The story is about Heather Hamilton who finds all her tiny wishes coming through after buying a piece of lucky heather from a gypsy. All of a sudden there's a spare seat on the tube, there's a parking space outside her apartment and the sexy neighbour she's always fancied asks her out for a drink. But Heather soon realizes that maybe it's not so great having all your wishes come true.

I really enjoyed this book and it made me think of a book I bought for my niece called `Felicity Wishes'. It's amusing, easy to read and has a feel-good factor to it that puts it above the rest. It's predictable in some ways but that doesn't detract from the story at all. I'll definitely be looking up Alexandra Potter to see what else she's got to offer. If they're half as good as this one I'll be stocking up!

3.0 out of 5 stars Funny, but too trivial 17 May 2006
By Reptile
Format:Paperback
This book is funny and well crafted, but too light to be really interesting. The lucky heather is the starting point for some jokes rather than a real superstition, but it impedes any genuine theme from emerging. Another problem is that the ending is too predictable - you can see it coming more or less from the start of the book.

Although I like humorous books, I am not normally a chicklit fan. If you are, you might enjoy this.

5.0 out of 5 stars even boys read it too! 19 Mar 2007
Format:Paperback
wifey bought this as a beach holiday read. I finished my book and started reading this before her much to her annoyance. I pretty much read it without putting it down..a great read..it gives you a light hearted, funny (yes it did make me laugh) insight into what girls are thinking...quite enlightening actually!!! A good easy beach/plane/train read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Closet Fan 13 Jun 2007
Format:Paperback
I really enjoyed `Be Careful What You Wish for' and as per another reader I actually read my wife's copy - it is a very fun book and well-written, although a little over-fluffy in places for this male reader. One of my favourite writers is Steve Horsfall and I could see some synergies in this book in the approach to writing (particularly Horsfall's `It's Cold Outside, i.e. the surreal aspects, observations on human nature and the feelgood backdrop). I will definitely admit that I will read another book by Alexandra Potter (after I have bought one for my wife's forthcoming birthday)

5.0 out of 5 stars makes u think 2 Sep 2006
Format:Paperback
I really enjoyed this book.

it was brilliant chick-lit and so relatable, everyone wishes for things without thinking. i had so many favourite parts in the book.

the reference to Sex and the City and 'Why did Carrie choose Mr Big? i never got it, She could have had Aiden!!' which is exactly how i felt! :)

The funniest moments were when Heather and Gabe were discussing the american word for bottoms :) and when she flashed at her sexy neighbour by accident. And the lists that Heather wrote were a great addition to the book.

Jess was such a funny character, i loved her flirting with Gabe. And Gabe was a brilliant character, i much prefered him to James! i also loved the name Billy Smith for a cat, i wanted to cuddle him! And her dad Lionel had me in stitches! I loved all the characters apart from Rosemary's daughter, she was annoying. And Brian dressed up as Cher! i loved that bit, he was fabulous. i could go on forever but i will stop!

I just loved the book and thought the ending was perfect. i dont think it was too predicatable, there were some little twists that i loved. It's just so good! buy it, u wont regret it.

5.0 out of 5 stars thumbs up!!! 31 July 2006
Format:Paperback
I picked up this book, read the back, bought it then put it on the side for 4 weeks and i've just read it and oh my god!!!!!!!!! why did I wait 4 weeks??

Its fantastic its the best chic book i've read in ages its funny with a slight hint of sadness towards the end it really is great.

Its about a girl called heather who buy's some lucky heather off a gypsy and every thing she wishes for comes true!! And I mean everything only thing is it doesnt make her happy and she has to makes some big choices to become happy again

its a bit predictable but in a great way.

I had one wish after finishing the book and that was the book was a lot longer!

A must buy for the beach!!

I'd also buy angel by katie price as that is just as good!

5.0 out of 5 stars A breath of fresh air 12 May 2006
By Lis
Format:Paperback
Alexandra Potter was an untried and untested author for me, but havimg read this book I can honestly say that I am going to read her other novels.

This book is unputdownable from start to the finish. It is very witty without being out of touch with every day life. Before you realise it you are totally hooked!
a fantastic read.
