The 22-page story "Be careful what you wish for..." from the comic book Superman Adventures #2 is reprinted in this volume. This is an excellent adventure story for younger readers who are interested in the exploits of Superman and his supporting cast. The style of the artwork is heavily influenced by the animated TV / DVD series of DC Comics' superheroes, and so is likely to be familiar to readers. The story is well-written with a clear storyline, characterisation, and well-described action and problem solving situations. As well as the comic story, these is a supporting page of writer & artist biographies, a general and a Superman-specific glossary, and two pages of Visual Questions and Prompts.
THE SPOILER ZONE
"Be careful what you wish for..." begins with a young fan of Superman pretending to be in trouble to gain the attention of her hero. Unfortunately, one of Superman's foes - Metallo - overhears someone mistakenly describing her as Superman's `girlfriend', and kidnaps her in order to bring Superman to fight him. Meanwhile, Clark Kent and Lois Lane are investigating a story that leads them to the villain's hideout, which naturally leads to a big fight between Superman and Metallo. The `girlfriend' problem is resolved at the end of the story, but not before Lois Lane gets stuck with the label...
The `original' Superman comic books are reprinted in both colour and black-and white (and suitable for home colouring-in). They are no less suitable for younger readers than these more modern stories aimed at the same age group as the originals were.
