Bought this to (finally!) replace a Starcom SH-004 wired headset (that I've used successfully for years) with my Garmin Zumo 550 and iPhone 4S. I did a lot of research on Bluetooth solutions for motorcycle helmets... and the Cardo Scala series seemed to consistently lead the way in reviews so I felt like this was a good purchase even before it arrived.

It was delivered pretty quickly and was well packaged. In the box, you'll find the G9 (detachable) unit, the unit's 'docking mount' (with wired speakers attached), two means of attaching it to your crash helmet (clamp and adhesive), two microphone options (wired and a gooseneck/boom), a mains charger, USB cable, a coiled stereo 3.5mm jack to jack MP3 cable, replacement spare microphone windshields and velcro patches, G9 storage bag, hex key and owners manual.

It's easy enough to install... I used the 'clamp 'method to attach it to my Arai full-face crash helmet... and the speakers are small enough for easy placement, as is the microphone (I used the wired one). Install took about 30 minutes total (including removing my old Starcom headset). All installed, the G9 does - initially at least - look a little bulky in place, but I guess any smaller and it would likely be more difficult to use. It also protrudes so your helmet will not sit flat when rested on flat surfaces as it will rest against the G9 mount... but it all seems very well made and quite durable.

In use as a headset, it performs pretty well and once you're familiar with the tactile 'positive-click' buttons and three-colour dual flashing LED's, is quite easy to use. It confirms commands with beep tones or a digitised spoken voice (mine arrived set up in French - I guess due to where it was despatched from - but was easy enough to configure for English).

Having previously owned an older type of Scala Rider I was keen to see how the technology had progressed. I wasn't disappointed. The clarity of the sound is excellent both during conversation and when listening to music on the open road. However, I do not recommend listening to music when riding in a busy environment as it can be very distracting and dangerous. The unit does more than enough and is easily paired with Sat Nav, Mobile and other bluetooth headsets. Controls on the unit are a bit fiddly and somewhat complicated at first. The more you use the unit the more you become familiar with the controls. Voice activation so far works great. Battery life is excellent. All in all, a great headset.

I read through many review on the G9 before buying and saw mixed opinions on whether this was a decent headset or not - many complained of static on the speakers, difficulty connecting with multiple headsets and problems with the VOX command feature, I can confim I have had absolutely no issues with this headset,

installation is easy in my Helmet (Shoe Raid2), clarity of the speakers is superb and the VOX commands and intercom with other bikes is seamless - one word of advice here - READ THE MANUAL -CAREFULLY! -TWICE!!

Many of the features involve multiple button presses to activate but once read & understood these soon become second nature.

Love it!

No problems with vendor. I bought this to complete a set of 3 to enable me and two friends to talk to each other on a trip down to Morocco. We found them invaluable, especially when navigating the mountain passes and busy city streets.

Maybe I have been unlucky but in the seven months I have had this product it is unreliable, has been changed once by the seller and is nowhere near the quality you expect for the money. I bought it and took it to Spain on a biking holiday. I did hit some bad weather and the unit just stopped working. Sent it back and it got replaced. The new unit was ok for a while but I did not use it that much as biking is a pleasure thing for me not a necessity. Winter came and the bike and unit got put away. Just got it out and its not working again properly. So I contacted Cardo direct and they have advised it is faulty. I have had it seven months and out of that time I have probably had forty hours maximum usage. One of the most expensive units on the market so you think you are buying quality. Well this unit is most definitely not. I think it is over rated.

I Have recently purchased the G9X and have had nothing but problems with it.If I cough or talk it rings a friends mobile phone. If I say music on,it plays music, but when I say music off,it just wont turn off.It obviously has a mind of it's own and does what it likes.I have contacted cardo support 3 times and am just being ignored when I ask if they have a solution to this problem.I guess they know it's rubbish and dont have a solution so choose to ignore me.I cant use it as it does many things without any instruction from myself.Total waste of money. It is in the back of a dark cupboard now. Please do not buy this rubbish. be warned....

I traveled over 3000 miles across Europe together with a TomTom Rider SatNav, through brilliant sunshine and hot weather as well as horrendous soaking rain and it never let me down. Battery life good, easily lasts a day but I tend to switch it off when its not required to save the battery. Difficult to hear voice commands and music clearly when riding above 70mph but the speed camera warning beeps are loud and clear. Bluetooth linked to my Blackberry and SatNav easily. Be sure to understand how the buttons work before venturing out but after one trip it will all make sense. Expensive but I believe it to be the best on the market.
