Product Description

Product Description

The Harvard Lampoon's original masterpiece (hem hem) BORED OF THE RINGS now joined together with A.R.R.R. Roberts' equally 'hem hem' worthy THE SODDIT and THE SELLAMILLION. From Wee to the Minty Mountains, from Goddam to Sollum, from Goodgulf to Gandef, two unique comic visions of a masterpiece of 20th century fantasy come together, all for less than 20. Fans of Tolkien's original works are famously completist in their approach to his works, with a proven sales record for the individual titles this box set is the perfect addition to their libraries. And as an added bonus a small guinea pig can easily nest in the empty box.

About the Author

Douglas Kenney and Henry Beard wrote Bored of the Rings before going on to form the Harvard Lampoon. It and its successor, The National Lampoon, became cultural institutions in the USA. A.R.R.R. Roberts is also Adam Roberts, Reader in English at Royal Holloway, University of London and author of several acclaimed SF novels. The Harvard Lampoon was essentially Douglas Kenney and Henry Beard. They wrote Bored of the Rings when they were students at Harvard. They then went on to form the National Lampoon, a satirical institution in the 70s. Kenney died in 1980, Beard lives in the Hamptons in the USA.

Format:Hardcover
I already owned and enjoyed earlier edition copies of these three volumes, (especially "Bored of the Rings") but wanted a standardised "set" as it were. The product fitted the bill nicely, but will not actually be opened and read. The three matching volumes, in their box, will be retained, sealed and in pristine condition. I assume that the quality and type are appropriate, I will not investigate further.

Mixed box of rings 5 Feb 2010

"Bored of the rings" was much as I remembered it, but the companion books were a bit too snarky and self depricating for my American tastes...
