My son has recently been diagnosed as a type 1 diabetic, and this book has been a godsend! We have used this book for calculating his carb intake for virtually every meal, and it has been so good that his school has bought one too. Although we use electronic scales at home, the pictures are really great for helping us make a realistic guess for carbs content in places where weighing food is impossible or impracticle, such as restaurants. It is easy to understand, and virtually all day-to-day foods are covered, as well as some of the more unusual fare. I would recommend this book to anyone.

Recently diagnosed with Diabetes I was recommended this book by my Diabetic nurses, A good book as it easy to use and gives you a good feel on how to count carbs when packaging is not that specific or easy to read. Picture on the plate make it easy to access total carbs consumed per a meal.

there are several versions of this book available, and the changes are minimal. What you get are hundreds of pictures of food and drinks that are relatively normal, not special recipes, together with the typical count of carbs and cals. If you are Diabetic, you need to wath the first of these numbers, if dieting you are probably more interested in the second. the food is displayed on a standard plate, so you can easily compare with what you are being served. Together with the accompanying apps, this makes a useful addition.

I bought this book as a back up to the Carbs/Cals/Protein/Fat book I have already which I use to carb count for my daughter's diabetes but got this copy instead as it said it was for people with diabetes. However, this book lists far fewer items than the other version and seems to omit many of the foods we have on a reular basis and I therefore found it unsuitable for our needs and returned it. It is worth paying the extra for the full version as this lists many more foods and is therefore more useful.

Having recently completed a DAFNE course, relating to the self management of Type 1 diabetes, I was delighted to have the recommendation from a course tutor to purchase this book. It is a perfect partner to the simple guide provided on the course and should be considered a 'must' for anyone who wishes to take the DAFNE guidelines seriously.
The book combines carbs and cals guidelines with multi photos for most of the everyday foods and drinks and, used sensibly, reduces guesswork to a minimum. After 52 years as a Type 1 diabetic, I have been inspired by a simple, well edited book. Well worth the small outlay.

What a wonderful book for people who are diabetic especially the young. Many foods and meals are in picture form and it is easy to understand the different levels of quantity eg.the amount of carbs and cals for 1/2 slice of white bread to a whole slice of thicker cut white bread and the same for brown. Then how much butter or topping they can put on, all in pictures.I have found it very helpful for my 14 year old granddaughter who has just been diagnosed with sugar diabetes the pictures explain all, rather than chapters of writing.
