I found this book very helpful. I have not got a carbohydrate Addicted child or grandchild but I was a carbohydrate addicted child myself.

This book gave me a real insight into why I had such a difficult childhood and why I was hungry all the time compared to my normal sisters.

This is a controlled carb diet and not a low carb diet. The Hellers idea is to control insulin output by limiting carbs and stimulants during the day and then to allow a normal portion of good carbs within 60mins of starting the evening meal.

I feel this is a much better approach than to ban a child from eating any carbs foods, it weans the child off junk food and stops the cravings for sweet food.

I wish I had found this book when I was in my teens and obese.

I would also recommend the other Heller CA books. Carbohydrate Addicts Diet, Carbohydrate Addicts Lifespan program and Carbohydrate Rescue and Recovery Program.

Carbohydrate Addicted Kids 1 Jan 2000
By Daria Wright - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
The book is excellent. I have read all of the Heller's books and I think this one is one of their best. It makes so much sense and really offers a lot of suggestions on how to help our children change their eating habits, as well as helping our kids achieve weight loss. It also addresses several behavioral issues as possibly being food related and offers suggestions for correcting these behaviors through food. I have been introducing new foods to even my 3 year old daughter like they recommend, and she has responded positively. It really does work. I would highly recommend this book to ANYONE with kids, and a great read for adults too.

This Book Can Save Your Child's Life 31 May 2002
By Shannon Reed - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I ordered and read the adult version of this book. Within one week I ordered and read this book knowing that in I would find the answers to my daughter's diet problems. She has been following the program for only 5 days and has already experienced a dramatic drop in cravings. Her behavior and attention has never been better. She has also lost a pound already. I turned to this program as a solution for my weight but have found so much more. Never before had I been relieved of my obsession for sweets and breads. This program did just that for both of us! If you think you may need it you probably do. Just read the book. It explains it all. Feel free to contact me if you want to discuss this further.

Different from the others 3 Aug 2005
By K. Halladay - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I was surprised at the different plan laid out for kids. It definitely is a lot easier for them to follow and slowly work into than the more serious, but successful, plan for adults in their other books. Even if your child is borderline overweight and you just want to know how to fix them better snacks, etc. than this has some great info.
