I really like the Neocolor II crayons and I got this set after trying out a smaller set first. I also tried out the various derwent products - Inktense pencils, Inktense blocks and the artbar, as they got some very good reviews. I was actually disappointed with all the derwent products and find it hard to understand the reviews. In fact I thought I got a faulty batch of inktense pencils at first as I was expecting something better!

Compared to the derwent artbar:
I found the derwent artbar did not seem to disolve fully in water. The Neocolor are smoother on the paper and don't leave bits of crayon like the artbar did(some crumbs seem to come off while you use it). I did like the triangular shape of the artbar as it was easier to hold. This was the only thing I preferred over the Neocolor.

The individual colours are available to purchase separately at my local art supplies shop, which will probably be useful rather than needing to buy another set if I run out of a few colours. I also bought a pentel waterbrush and I enjoy using that with this set.

I have used these for years...brilliant.
I love the texture and the range and intensity of colours although I tend to use them like water colours.

This is NOT a toy.My wife is still finding the best way to use them in her art work.
Not everything in this world is instant. Learning to use an item which is new to you takes a variable time for each person. It appears to be a useful addition to some artists.

I am a professional artist. I use these water-soluble crayons in my work. There are many brands of this type of media, but this is by far the best, softest, easiest to work with, wonderful color.

Caran D'ache Pastels 3 Feb 2012
By PrairieFairy - Published on Amazon.com

These pastels are the most fun art tool I have gotten my hands on. I love that you can dip them into water then stroke them over the canvas for a rich watery effect, dry for a rough traditional pastel look, or you can also spray it once it has been laid on the canvas and rework it. I love using them to sketch out my composition then go in with acrylics and they melt into the acrylic creating wonderful shaded edges. Most fun you can have with a crayon! One thing I do find though is they seem to take a bit to get them going. Like they have a coating on them.

Serious Artists' Toy 27 Jan 2012
By Janis O'Neill - Published on Amazon.com
Verified Purchase Durability:    Educational:    Fun:
Not sure where I heard about this product, maybe Quilting Arts Magazine. These water soluable crayons are easy and fun to use. They solved my resistance to purchasing another round of dyes for cotton on my small art quilts. These crayons work similarly to water colors. I've experimented by applying/rubbing to dry and damp fabric. Not sure if there is much difference in the end result though they transfer to damp fabric much easier. I imagine these colors will work a little differently with each type of fiber, fabric and weave. Apply the color to the fabric from the crayon stick, mixing colors side by side and over one another if you please. Then add water with your brush of choice (I like a foam brush best so far) or spritz to dampen all first. Each stick/color carries its color differently. I found some of the lighter colors to be more dense than the darker colors. So, if it makes a difference to your project I'd suggested testing each color stick for its covering qualities first. Hang or lay flat to dry to see if you applied enough color. Reapply if necessary. A good pressing sets the colors to the fabric.

What an Awesome Product 2 May 2013

I had heard about these on Youtube. They are everything they are hyped to be. I love the creamy super easy to work with texture. Colors are bold and stay quite true. I also have Inktense pencils, and find the Caran d'Ache to remain truer to their color once wet. I'm currently working on mixing them with some success, but have a long way to go. Who knew grown-up-girl crayons could be so much fun? If ever I can afford it, I will definitely buy the 126 color package.

Great product! 19 Feb 2013

I chose this product because I was looking for a way to accent my art journals with a type of water soluble product. The color when dry or wet is bright and doesn't become grainy when a wet brush is applied. They are easy to use and I'm glad I purchased the product.
