They are water-soluble, soft and easy to work, with strong bright colours and excellent lightfastness. They are very economical thanks to their exceptional covering power. Use for dry or wet drawing on all materials, watercolour effects, washes and scraping out. Also suitable for use on (illuminated) signs and panels. This tin contains 30 pastels.

I don't use this as a toy, i used it to paint icing its fabulous for that purpose. I am pleased with the colours I painted some icing butterflies with them and they looked amazing.

My aunt who is a professor at an art school in Boston gave these to our family as a gift when I was a child. She said that they were ideal for face painting and they are!!! We played with our set often for years and the pastels are still in good shape and we now use them with my children. I just bought my own set to have at my house and I anticipate my grandchildren playing with them. I LOVE these pastels. They are easy to use and as mess free as face paints get! We were able to use them unattended in grade school (age 6 or so). We loved coming downstairs and showing off our face creations to our parents. My mother is an artist and enjoys using them on paper, alas I did not inherit the artist gene and my only experience is with face painting. I highly recommend them!

I purchased a cheap set of watercolor crayons from a Big Box craft store. I was sorely disappointed with the intensity of the color and with the blendability. Although the Caran d'Ache are pricey for a novice like me, I was amazed with the difference between these and the cheap version. Creamy consistency, blends fully and evenly with water, nice rich colors. Worth the extra cost!
