5.0 out of 5 stars Tess Thompson writes relationships like Monet paints water lillies 30 Jan 2013

Nobody writes characters like Tess Thompson. It's like she looks into our lives and creates her characters based on our best friends, our lovers, and our neighbors. Caramel and Magnolias, and the authors debut novel Riversong, have some of the best characters I've ever had a chance to fall in love with.

I was lucky enough to receive an advanced readers copy and could not put it down. I don't like leaving spoilers in reviews so just trust me, Nicholas Sparks has nothing on Tess Thompson, her writing flows so smoothly you can't help but to want to read on!

There is a twist in there that I did not see coming AT ALL that ties everthing together! Genius!

I'm already looking forward to Tess Thompson's next novel!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Character development that will keep you coming back for more! 25 Jan 2013
By Jennifer - Published on
Caramel and Magnolias is a story of love, loss, passion, hopes, dashed hopes, romance, parenting, and family. Real family: including the messiness every family includes. The characters are real, diverse, and I didn't want to say goodbye to them at the end of the book! I couldn't put it down and read the book over one weekend. I loved Riversong, by the same author, so came back for more and was not disappointed. Settle in for a wonderful read and enjoy!

I had read her last book entitled "Riversong", and when I heard she had another book out I immediately found a copy and started in on it. Once I started I couldn't put it down. It kept me completely engaged with love, mystery, drama, and a few twists! I loved "Riversong", but I have to say I just might love this one a bit more :) Can't wait for her next book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Caramel and Magnolias 31 Jan 2013
By R. Sedgwick - Published on
This was one of those books that I had to read straight through, because I just couldn't bring myself to put it down. The story grabs you immediately, then sucks you in and doesn't let you go until the last word has been read. I found myself laughing, crying, and biting my nails while reading this book, and thoroughly enjoyed every moment of it.
If you are offended by steamy scenes, or if you are a grammar Nazi, and can't look past some MINOR issues, then you may not love it as much as I did, but if you can enjoy a good story for what it is, GRAB THIS UP and have yourself a good read.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Beauty of the Well-Chosen Word 31 Jan 2013

I love Tess Thompson's books because I love good writing. Her prose is clean and tight, which are increasingly rare qualities, and manages to evoke a full range of emotions with both subtlety and power. Her fiction goes well beyond art imitating life. Thompson's characters are alive and fully-realized, the action is believable, and the story unfolds with the right balance of tension and exuberance. CARAMEL AND MAGNOLIAS is a pleasure to read.
