Having read a number of magazine and online reviews for this album I have come to the conclusion that reviewers (especially professional ones) have lost all concept of reference points in music. Perhaps I am too old, or they are all too young and never heard of Alan Parsons?

This is an excellent, musical album. It is not one for playing the odd tune from, but for late night listening. Seems to be an unusual way to spend time these days, listening to music. Too often it is just something that is on in the background, but this album dares you to listen. And by daring you will be rewarded, as this is clearly the work of someone who cares about his craft.

The other title for this review was to be 'Marmite'....in fact, Connan can have that as his next album title. But for now, enjoy Caramel..I am.

5.0 out of 5 stars Caramel 19 Dec 2013

I first heard a track from this album on the Janice Long show on Radio 2 one night. I ordered it right away on Amazon and was not disappointed with the rest of the tracks. Sexier than Prince and more Lurv than Barry White! Buy & enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best album of 2013 19 Mar 2014
By M. Cleary - Published on Amazon.com
A lush, layered exercise in yacht rock, 70's-80's R&B grooves and Syd Barret esque distortion psychedelia, Caramel is one of those rare albums that effectively draws upon the past to create an experience that feels fresh and more than the sum of its parts. Caramel is also one of those albums that possesses it's own idiosyncratic sonic vocabulary. It's a very weird album, and I've heard people liken it to Ariel Pink, which I feel is a fair comparison. Both Ariel Pink's work and Connan's are heavily informed by nostalgia for 70s and 80s FM hits.

In addition, this is an album for people who enjoy cohesive experiences. Connan wrote the album because he wondered what an album named "Caramel" would sound like. And I think the end product of that ambition lives up to its namesake. This is sexy, groovey music.
5.0 out of 5 stars The Perfect Album to Set the Mood 15 April 2014

My boyfriend and I consider ourselves to have highly eclectic musical tastes, so when we set a theme to our romantic life, not just any love song will do. We wanted an album to enrich our love-filled nights with passionate fire, while still soothing us with smooth falsetto vocals and jazzy melodies. We found just that in Conan Mockasin's Caramel. His gentle voice and classic instrumental back-up was tailor-made for those special nights-in with the one you love. So if your romantic evenings seem to be lacking in auditory magic, give this album a listen and let the romance commence!
