2.0 out of 5 stars More a pantomime than novel, 24 Jan 2009
I have been steadily working my way through the Alan Lewrie saga. The first four books were well crafted and at times nicely raunchy with some good descriptive and exciting battle scenes. However, after about the fourth book one could almost feel the struggle that Lambin had to create something new and worthwhile. Having just put down 'Captain's Vengeance' I have come to the conclusion that Lambdin has lost the plot. The book starts slowly, struggles to launch itself but having done so sinks in a mire of unbelievable characters and incidents which seem to be copied from the MacDonald Fraser's Pyrates. I doubt that Lamdin is proud of this work and this comes through in his 'Afterword'. I may try one more book in the series but will buy it with some apprehension.
