Product Description

Review

"The illustrations are gorgeous and this is a book that adults will fall for too." (Children's Bookseller, 21 March 2003 )

Floyd's finely observed paintings of Captain are given room to breathe in this large-format picture book for three-to-five year olds. While the first half of the book details a cat's daily ritual of washing, sleeping and eating, the night-time Captain is revealed to be a Romeo in a rowing boat.' (Dinah Hall Sunday Telegraph, 20 July 2003 )

"Simple, romantic, magical - the invisible narrator shares her cat's lovely life." (Guardian Children's Books Supplement, Autumn 2003 )

"Why do cats purr? Here is a tale to gladden the heart and waken the imagination of every reader, both young and old...children learning to read and parents narrating the book will enjoy the beautiful colour illustrations and entertaining story." (Your Cat Magazine, September 2003 )

"Madeleine Floyd, without question, is a cat lover and a loving cat observer. Every pose taken up by the black and white cat called Captain is a joy to behold...Floyd shines a dreamily romantic light on the nocturnal trystings of the feline world...The expertly executed artwork, excellent page design and restrained text combine to produce a book of seductive charm." (Carousel, Autumn 2003 ) --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Magical feline tail 20 July 2004
Format:Hardcover
Having given copies to friends and relatives, I can tell you that it engages children because of its narrative, character and the fantastic artwork, and any adult with an iota of soul cannot help but be charmed, too.

A wonderful, magical children's book. And, if you have ever lived in or near the Thames or walked along the river between Hammersmith and Kew, you will recognise it from the illustrations!

I ordered this on a whim as I like Madeleine Floyd's work and have cats myself. It is an A4 size book, with beautiful illustrations. The story is charming and engaging. Would be perfect for young children or cat lovers of all ages.

We borrowed this book from our local library and my son loved it! We were desperate to obtain a copy and when we looked online they were all rather pricey. I left it for a few months and then looked again and found this copy which was reasonably priced.
