Captain’s Day is better than sex – Lee Westwood

Captain’s Day is not as good as sex – Tiger Woods.

All right, Terry Ravenscroft has made up the above quotes about his hilarious comic novel but he hasn’t made up the following extracts from just a few of the 5 Star Amazon Customer Reviews that Captain’s Day has received –

Rue - It is the first of his books that I've read and if, like me you enjoy side splitting humour in writing, this is a `must read' that will not disappoint. I loved it and laughed from cover to cover.

Alan Tickner - This is brilliant. Some real laugh out loud funny parts. The characters are fantastically realistic and you will see a lot of people you know in them. This book is not just for golfers but anyone who is looking for an easy going read with some great comic twists.

M. G. Chisholm "chiefengineer3" - Having just read Stairlift to Heaven I was keen on more of Mr. Ravenscroft's output so I bought this little gem. It has a vague hint of Tom Sharpe about it, but much more accessible and I have to say probably much funnier. It's a bit ruder than the aforesaid gentlemen s output but used with such aplomb it can't help but work wonderfully.
Honestly I can't believe what a find Terry Ravenscroft is.

At Sunnymere Golf Club meticulous plans put in place by club captain Henry Fridlington and his good lady wife Millicent ought to have guaranteed that his Captain's Day would be the best day of his life. However Henry has recently enforced a strict 'no swearing on the golf course' policy, a policy which has not gone down at all well with the membership - and a policy which is largely instrumental, along with more than a little help from Henry himself, in ensuring that far from being the best day in his life his Captain's Day turns into the very worst day of his life.

By M. G. Chisholm TOP 500 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:Kindle Edition
Having just read Stairlift to Heaven I was keen on more of Mr. Ravenscroft's output so I bought this little gem. It has a vague hint of Tom Sharpe about it, but much more accessible and I have to say probably much funnier. The whole book is based upon one day - the Captains Day at the golf course and has a cast of characters that many will know even non golfers which I am. There is a multi-layered build up to a truly hilarious farcical end which is proper British humour as is used to be before the trendy PC brigade got hold of it and knackered it. If you remember the golden days of Dave Allen, Les Dawson, the Two Ronnies (people who could actually make you laugh) etc. then this is the book for you. It's a bit ruder than the aforesaid gentlemen s output but used with such aplomb it can't help but work wonderfully.

Honestly I can't believe what a find Terry Ravenscroft is.

This is a very funny book. It will be enjoyed by golfers and non golfers alike. In fact if Captains day was like this in real life, lots more would take up the game. Refreshingly non pc with events that only the author could ever think of. Great fun and I doubt you have ever read anything like it before.

Well kind of :-)

Throughout the books i was constantly reminded of the characters as if it was my very own golf club, and i would guess anyone who is or knows of golf club members!!

This is the first book i have read within a week for a long time, usual speed is 4 weeks plus!!!! it is well worth putting on anyones to read list whether you play golf or not.

I am really not a golfer or fan of golfing at all, I don't know the difference between a putter or an iron - in fact my mother summed it up when Chris de Burgh was being "done" on... Read more

enjoyed this very humerous book although towards the end it turned a bit of a farce rather than good humour. Read more

Good Fun
This is a funny book but the author is not as good as Tom Sharpe. I read it quite quickly, and managed to finish it but I was glad to get to the end. Read more

Hilarious
Well, considering that I don't like golf you may be surprised to learn that I found this book to be a good read & very funny, a similar style to Tom Sharpe I thought.

Laugh? where?
I really must have been missing something here. Just found it rather dull. I would rather do the food shopping than spend a day golfing with these characters.
