From the very start in it's first page I knew this was going to be a good interesting read. The content never let me down. The locations and trips recorded and now thankfully released for all to read; is both an eye opener of what early Explorer's had to contend with. The descriptions written about I found useful as to why they received their names by the Explorer. I would recommend this book to all for it's clarity and the desire to read on even when one wishes to stop!. That's says much about the man himself, and those whom he teamed up with. Recommended book to read.

The Voice of a Hero 10 July 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
This is Captain Cook's log of the voyage of the Endeavour, which circumnavigated the world and charted New Zealand and the east coast of Australia. You can almost hear Captain Cook speak; his intelligence, humanity and good sense comes through so you really understand why his crew followed him to the end of the earth. And what a voyage! Strange lands, people, customs, animals and plants. Sailing in uncharted waters. Surviving on whatever food could be traded or caught. Repairing and rebuilding the boat when it went aground on the Great Barrier Reef. You are constantly amazed at the resourcefulness and bravery of Cook and his people. Absolutely fascinating.
( Just one snag: there are pages of latitudes and longitudes that you need to flip through. The Kindle version has no charts- perhaps an entertainment for a rainy day is to plot the voyage from the lats and longs?)

Heavy going as it's very much in the old style but it does give a great insight as to the immense work Captain Cook did and what he and his compatriates acheived. Well worth reading for the serious maritime history buff
