Book Description

19 Mar 2008
Little does Jasabel Buchanan realize the rakish Bermuda sloop she sights on the horizon is about to plunge her into a passionate voyage of intrigue and adventure. An indentured lady's maid to the rich Governor's daughter, Jasabel is taken prisoner when the ship on which they sail is seized by pirates. Soon she finds herself the personal captive of the pirates' dark, enigmatic captain. Sent into bondage on the plantations because of his Jacobite loyalties, Captain Neil Devlin escaped to become the terror of the English colonies. When the chance to abduct his former owner's daughter presents itself, he takes it. What he doesn't expect is her spirited, and captivating, lady's maid. But amongst old injustices an evil lurks, and before she can be free, Jasabel must decide if she dares to love a pirate.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pirate finds his treasure 8 Jan 2010
By Melissa - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
Captain Devlin's Captive reads like a novella, it is a condensed story of pirates and captives that is entertaining. It is a quick read but one that has likeable leads.

Jasabel Buchanan is the indentured servant of Felicity Chiltingham a mean, spoiled woman, whose father owns a large plantation in the West Indies. It was easy to despise Felicity. She takes selfishness to a new level. The two are attacked by pirates during their Mediterranean voyage.

Captain Neil Devlin has a score to settle with Felicity's father and takes her aboard his ship but he also kidnaps Jasabel too. Instantly Neil and Jasabel form a connection. Neil likes her spunky and generous nature; she is the anti-thesis of Felicity.

Neil and Jasabel are striving to overcome their past hardships, both have found themselves in desperate situations and both are nobly minded. There's not a lot of background story to fill in all the parts of their personalities but since this is not a 300 page novel, there is enough to give the reader an understanding of their motivations. Jasabel wants a fresh start from her humble beginnings and Neil seeks to assist others who have suffered at the hands of oppressive landowners, a fate he too has experienced.

Neil and Jasabel have a passionate romance. However there is a voyeur scene which was decidedly not very romantic, but overall the leads have a sweetly enfolding story. Furthermore they communicate with each other and respect each other's advice and opinions. Added into this tale are historical events occurring in the Caribbean. The earthquake scenes are well written. This is a nice little novella with a sweet spirited heroine and a cat-loving (unique for a hero) honorable pirate.

5.0 out of 5 stars Review 16 Aug 2008
By Cheryl Koch - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Jasabel Buchanan and Miss Felicity Chiltingham were guests of Captain Walters of Rebecca the ship. Jasabel a beauty with long black hair and a feisty attitude is the maid to Felicity, the Governor's daughter. They are sailing to meet Felicity's dad. Along the way though the ship gets overtaken by pirates and is now the possession of Captain Neil Devlin of Tyger. Captain Devlin may be a pirate but he is a handsome and dashing one at that. What with Devlin being tall as well as having nice, shiny raven hair. Devlin takes both Jasabel and Felicity aboard his ship as his captives. One look at Jasabel has Devlin knowing his has struck gold. While sailing the open seas Devlin and his crew come upon another his called the Black Snake, commandeered by Captain Pierre Le Chameau. Pierre is one ruthless man. He takes no prisoners and no one says "No" to him. While Pierre is aboard Tyger he is introduced to Felicity. When Devlin and Jasabel are indisposed, Pierre kidnaps Felicity and sails away. Now it is a race for Devlin and his crew to go after the Black Snake and save Felicity.

I really enjoyed this book. I had romance, adventure, a strong heroine, and a sexy hero in the form of a pirate. After the success of all three Pirate's movies, what lady in her right mind wouldn't want a pirate who is the captain of his own ship to steal her away for himself. At only 75 pages Captain Devlin's Captive is a quick read but a fun one at that. I found myself settling down and before I knew it I was done. The was just one minor problem......it ended! Susanne Saville can count me in as a new fan. Plus you know Susanne has to be good when her story Captain Devlin's Captive was chosen to be featured in a new anthology called Wicked Rogues.

4.0 out of 5 stars I was there on the high seas! 4 May 2012

Fun, sexy pirate read! The characters pulled me in almost immediately and I was there in the Captain's cabin! I love this author's sparkling, witty voice which is lilting and almost whimsical. Combined with the fact that she writes a very sexy book makes for a captivating mix.
