More About the Author

I was born in 1929. I started work at 13 during the war as a joiner/undertakers apprentice, moving on to take up employment as a painter/decorator two years later until at the age of 21 I was called up for National Service. On completing National Service in 1952 I returned to decorating, became unsettled and reengaged in the Royal Artillery in which I served in most if not all the theatres open to Her Majesty Forces, rising to the rank of warrant officer of signals in a missile regiment, during which time I was a lecturer at the Royal School of Artillery for 3 years. Leaving the forces after over 23 years, I returned to decorating and with my experience abroad became the overseas foreman for an international decorating company working on palaces, hotels and millionaires villas in Morocco, Abu Dhabi, Paris and the south of France, as well as Sandringham House. These experiences have inspired me in my writings.

This is a good yarn which will be enjoyed by World War 2 novel fans. The enjoyment, however, is spoilt by the large number of spelling errors and wrong words in the wrong place. Hence the low rating.

I found my hackles rising very frequently as I started to read, whoever wrote this book has a very romantic view of life as a Captain D
which bears little if any relevance to life in any ship in whch I served. Total and utter trash.

4.0 out of 5 stars World War 2 from the Captains view.. 20 Mar 2014

Having read a lot of ww2 books concerning the navy , I found the book interesting and sad . The writer understood the technical side of the battle the crews fighting against the elements. I was told by a friend of my late father than the Russians , were happy to accept help .But shall we say they were a tad slow in coming forward to assist the convoys...
