first, l'm a big alan moore alan davis fan so this review may be a bit biased, but this book is a really really great read; but again as with volume 3, the book ends halfway through a storyline, so roll on volume 5, asap. secondly, very importantly, the content is different to that given in the amazon description. reprinted are; black knight/captain britain stories from Hulk Comic Weekly 42-55.57-63, and the new captain britain from Marvel Superheroes 377-389. and the Daredevils 1-11. ln one way this is a real improvement as the book does include the very early dave thorpe and alan davis stories, which l think are essential to appreciate the story as a whole, and which were not reprinted in the original captain britain TPB. but, it does mean, as mentioned above, we don't get the conclusion of the davis/thorpe/ moore epic in this volume. Relevent covers from Marvel Superheroes and the Daredevils are included, in colour. The moore/ davis part of the story is reprinted in colour, but the thorpe/davis episodes are in black and white, as they were originally presented, although all the artwork has been coloured by marvel in the past. strange. forewards by steve parkhouse and a rather bitter david thorpe add insight to the ideas behind the stories. for me the moore davis stories are the strongest by far and will (eventually) provide a stunning and totally satisfying conclusion to the new captains first adventure. shame the story is in two parts though.
