3.0 out of 5 stars meh 11 May 2013
What I did like was the surreal plot and themes, maybe america has made mistakes in the past. But, it is just too short and the pictures are too big taking up plenty of room in the measly 160 pages.

3.0 out of 5 stars Ages well, but not well enough 18 Aug 2011
In 2002, Dan Jurgen's competent but somewhat unambitious run on Captain America was brought to an abrupt halt after 9/11. What came next was a completely new take on Captain America: gritty artwork, grittier plots and a darker Cap grieving for lost hope. I hated it. But ten years later, it has aged well. The gritty, realistic art and edgy plots have become more mainstream and better executed in the meantime, and we can see that this was an unsteady first step on a path that eventually led to Ed Brubaker's outstanding run of recent years.

Although it wasn't to my tastes at the time, the art is in fact beautiful. Donning his costume for the first time after pages grey-toned Ground Zero, Cassaday's Cap seems to light up the room. Unfortunately, the book is still marred by some dubious scripting. The plot shifts rapidly and bafflingly, and one key plot point is obscured in bad dialogue. Overall it makes for a disorienting read, but perhaps one that accurately reflects Cap's reaction to the events of 2001.
