Manufacturer's Description

Captain America: Super Soldier is a third person action adventure game which combines dynamic acrobatic platforming with a fast and fluid melee combat system. Written by renowned Marvel comic writer Christos Gage, the game follows an engaging storyline set within the period of WWII. Players will take the role of ‘Super Soldier’ Captain America and test their skills as they battle infamous enemies such as Iron Cross, the Hydra Army and the legendary Red Skull.

At their disposal is Captain America’s iconic shield, which will be utilised as both a defensive and offensive weapon and be used to execute dozens of innovative and exhilarating moves. The legendary comic book character truly comes to life scaling wallsand taking out multiple enemies in this exciting combat game.

The original story for Captain America: Super Soldier is being penned by noted comic, film, and TV writer Christos Gage, the primary writer for the Marvel’s Avengers: The Initiative series of comics. Gage has written numerous books for major Marvel characters, including Siege: Captain America, The Invincible Iron Man, X-Men, Spider-Man, Civil War: House of M, and Union Jack.

Gage wrote his original story for Captain America: Super Soldier so that the setting coincides with the upcoming movie of the same name, but he infused the game with immersive twists designed to enhance gameplay alongside all-new cinematic action sequences.

The preeminent super hero introduced during the WWII era, Captain America was created by the legendary team of Joe Simon and Jack Kirby in 1941. Over 200 million Captain America issues have been sold in 75 countries and the shield-wielding hero is a key member of the Avengers alongside comic book icons The Hulk, Iron Man, and Thor.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun game 16 July 2011

I wasn't expecting to much from this game with Thor being a disapointment along with the ironman games but because i'm a big marvel fan i ended up buying it and i was plesantly suprised the gameplay is very similar to Batman Arkham asylum but not identical it seems sega where inspired by Arkham asylum and have taken bits and pieces which work very well the combat for example is very similar but you can use Caps iconic shield to knock down enemies and deflect bullets overall the combat is very solid probably the best part of the game. The graphics in the game are suprisingly good Cap himself is very detaild and looks great the only problem is that it seems they put all there efforts into Cap but the enemises and the enviroments can seem abit dull and lacking at times but nothing terrible. The gameplay is pretty solid Cap feels pretty smooth to control and the combat as i said earlier is pretty good, i havn't completed this game yet but so far it is pretty good and took me bye suprise if your a marvel fan i would recomend this it is far better than Thor and the Ironman games if your a casual gamer not to into superheros i would still recomend you rent it and give it a try overall i give this game so far a solid 7/10

5.0 out of 5 stars A great game that Sega would do well to revisit 25 Feb 2012

Like other Reviewers I was expecting disappointment from 'Captain America Super Solder.' I bought it because several sites had said it was better than you might expect. Actually, I traded in 'Thor God of Chunder' or whatever it was called (absolutely terrible, terrible game). I always finish games, but I left Thor midway through Jotunheim even though he was a favourite of my comicbook reading childhood. This game is so much better that it's hard to describe the difference.

Captain America Super Soldier (or 'CASS' as we'll call it here)has become one of my favourite games ever though. Big statement, so let me explain why I play this game more often than Force Unleashed or even (gasp) Arkham City (although I obviously think that is great).

GAMEPLAY 4/5 (Yep, you better believe it!)
CASS clearly takes its gameplay cues from the Rocksteady Arkham series. There's no stealth so forget about that. You'll repeatedly find yourself either in a melee bout with several 'Grunts' (ordinary soldier types ranging from shooters to pugilists to troopers with body armour) and mid-level bosses (who wear heavy armour and either carry pneumatic pistons or flamethrowers), or presents you with a fairly light puzzle objective (I say light, I'm full on rubbish with puzzles and have zero patience and I never had to call in my Wife once to get through). There's the occasional boss character (but not as many as you might think). I love the combat. It has obvious roots in Arkham Batman, but it works as pure Captain America and rewards you with several moves you might expect to see in a Cap comic book (LOTS of shield-clanging blows; kicks off the wall; rolls and flips into hooks and crosses; the critical punch cutscene is perfect). I also love the 'tap-on-shoulder-right-cross' move.

4.0 out of 5 stars Captain America and his Shiny Shield of Justice 11 April 2012

Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
The general consensus is that video-games based on films are awful. They are usually rushed out in order to tie-in with the release date of the movie and there is a sense of apathy towards the game's existence since it is purely motivated by monetary reasons, rather than originality. This isn't always the case however, for example, the recent Batman: Arkham Asylum was released shortly after The Dark Knight, and whilst not a direct movie-tie in, it managed to catch the attention of those who'd watched the movie, and yet remain its own creature without having to sacrifice its own creative vision to tie in to the movie's plot.

Unlike Arkham Asylum, Captain America: Super Soldier is clearly based on the movie, Captain America: The First Avenger. It shares the same voice-actors as the movie adaptation and takes place in events unseen in the actual film, so it has some freedom to stray from the movie's plot, although it does mean that the Red Skull is unable to be defeated, since this happens in the movie.

In terms of similarities, I would say this game is a hybrid of Batman: Arkham Asylum and X-men: Origins Wolverine. It combines simple RPG progression (a staple in most modern games) with basic action and exploration. There is a sandbox-element to Castle Zemo as you explore, with some areas off-limits until story progression opens them up. There are also hundreds of collectibles, each tied to unlockables in-game, which thanks to a simple map display are easily located and become rewarding rather than frustrating.

The fighting system is fairly simplified and is largely based around the shield that Cap slings towards his enemies.

3.0 out of 5 stars Captain America, **** YEAH! 4 Aug 2011

Wasn't that long ago that the Thor movie tie in game came out and was treated like the worst thing since Syphillis. Well I played Thor and I enjoyed it. Now here we are already with yet another Marvel movie tie in game that has again been treated like dirt by the so-called "professionals". I've just gotten done playing through it myself and oh look... I actually enjoyed playing it as well.

The game takes the form of a side story that occurs "between scenes" of the Captain America film seemingly. "Super Soldier" finds you in control of Steve Rogers, the titular genetically enhanced Captain America, as he is dropped onto a huge castle estate in the mountains that is being used as a research facility by slimy Nazi scientist scientist Arnim Zola who has a seemingly limitless supply of 'Hydra' soldiers(Basically extra-evil Nazi cult types) protecting him. So it's up to Cap to find out what exactly Zola is doing while also finding a way to destroy the massive Hydra army he commands. It's a decent enough plot that plays out much as you'd expect from a movie spin off. There isn't really a whole lot going on beyond Cap running a gauntlet of enemies in between boss fights with several Captain America villains from the comics(Including Baron Von Strucker, Viper, and Zola himself obviously). It might all feel like fairly standard WW2 shooter territory in terms of atmosphere at least, but of course this is an action adventure, not a shooter so it's a little different in that respect at least. Not really a whole lot I can add here to be honest beyond the fact Baron Von Strucker fights you with a big robotic claw attached to his arm called the "Satan Claw", which is a name that always makes me smile.
