3.0 out of 5 stars classic captain america, 6 Nov 2003
By A Customer
This comic is great fun- a real rollercoaster of the 1980s style of superhero stories: when I was originally reading Captain America, amongst others. The art is gloriously colourful, and yet still conveys a certain degree of grunge when required- the script is typically cap: Steve Rogers continually questioning his moral right to use his superior skills on opponents, his realization that although he has vast skill and ability beyond most mere mortals when it comes down to it he is `just' a man. All good stuff- the captain's superhuman skill and agility displayed in every o.t.t. action scene: particularly impressive are his singlehanded resolution of a hostage situation on board a US nuclear sub ("He'll never be able to use that shield in here"- bash, crash etc) and a showdown between Cap, Hawkeye and the mercenary Batroc.

There is no deep thinking secreted in the book beyond the usual moral quandries that face captain america, just a rip-roaring yarn that is a solid read from start to finish that encompasses not only global terrorism, but alien invasion as well! not bad for a few collected issues!

Well worth the money- an excellent read. Whilst being named Captain America the character really represents all thats decent and idealised in everyone- much is made of this in the storyline. A great, fun comic thats highly recommended!
