Product Description

Product Description

Written in diary form, this is the story of reluctant pirate pupil Pickles, packed off to pirate school. At Captain Abdul's awful academy she is taught such essential pirate topics as treasure, how to make cannon balls and the correct way to say, "Ooh arrgh!" Then she discovers a staffroom plot to kidnap the pupils and hold them to ransom! So she leads a mutiny, following which she and her fellow pupils set sail in the Golden Behind and have a great life robbing other pirates. Pickles (revealed on the last page to be a girl called Maisy) is happy because she has plenty of time to paint!

4.0 out of 5 stars A Swashbuckling Success, 28 Aug 2001
By A Customer
This book about chidren reluctantly being sent to learn the art of pirating is wonderfully illustrated with real looking characters for children to relate to. For kids who normally show little interest in traditional 'read to me' books, this is ideal as there is lots of action on each page to hold their attention and to talk about. The layout encourages kids to point out things and to ask questions. My child who normally hates books was very excited by all the little goings on on each page and also found it very funny to see the children dressed as pirates and taking charge of the grown ups. The actual written content is uncomplicated enough for young kids to understand but contains lots of little jokes and wordplays for the slightly older child to appreciate. An all round success in this home!

5.0 out of 5 stars Mr Higgins Class 3 , 1 May 2008
By Mr. J. Higgins (England) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
A little girl called Pickles was sent to a funny Pirate School by her Dad. The school has very strange teachers. Luckly, she brought her dog called Spud! The Pirate teachers plan to kidnap Pickles and the other children. Will the teachers be kind or is it a trick? Do the children get their own way? What plan will Pickles and Spud come up with?

Our favourite parts of the story include the children learning naughty Pirate words! We also like the funny names given to all the Pirate teachers including 'Poop-deck Percy Ploppe'!

The charcters we really liked include Captain Abdul who is very funny always bossing the children about. We also really liked Pickles beacuse she is very brave and understanding and Hard-hearted Henry Hawkins who teaches children Pirate fighting skills!

This book is suitable for boys and girls aged 5-12 because it is very funny and it has brilliant colourful illustrations. Maybe younger children would not understand the humour. This book will really get your imagination going. No time to loose go and buy this book!

A girl called Pickles is forced by her father to go to pirate school.Captain Abdul taught her to fight, steal, swear(don't worry swear words are not printed) and paint pirate pictures. She discovers the pirates are going to kidnap them and decides to lead a mutiny.

This book is suitable for ages 4-11

You should read it because it is hilarious and fantastic.
