Product Description
Captado! Segunda edicion is a two-part course taking the beginner through to GCSE Spanish; it is particularly suitable for those taking Spanish GCSE over a period of three years or less. It provides a systematic, organized approach to assist rapid progress.
Book 1 covers the basic ground and should be an ideal text for the first stage of a GCSE course.
Book 2 revisits key language structures, broadens the topic coverage and focuses closely on the skills and knowledge required for a good grade in the full Spanish GCSE. The second edition of Captado! has been updated to take account of the euro, and all the assessment material has been revised in line with the new style of testing in GCSE papers.
Progress through the course follows two parallel strands: a systematic presentation of the major language structures in Spanish; each spread focuses on one specific grammar point, using examples in a lively context and practising the point through a series of interesting tasks; and a storyline, which follows the lives and relationships of a group of Spanish-speaking characters, moves the course through the various topics specified for GCSE and ensures a good quality and quantity of cultural input.
Special features of the second edition are that it: is up to date, both culturally and in the context of GCSE development; has imaginative and motivating tasks in a narrative context; has a thorough approach to the coverage of language structures; has simple explanations of key grammatical patterns; has varied listening material, including several songs in each unit; has a strong cultural context; offers suggestions for differentiation, for the less able and for the quicker learner; has structured opportunities for spoken and written coursework; identifies homework tasks; contains frequent ICT opportunities, with a disk included in the Teacher's Resource File; has differentiated worksheets for Foundation and Higher tier assessment; and has OHT masters for the presentation of key vocabulary and structures.

About the Author
John Connor has taught Spanish in a range of schools and is an experienced writer of resource materials. He is a Spanish examiner at GCSE and A level and is widely involved in teacher training. Mike Zollo is a well-known author of Spanish course materials. He is also an experienced examiner. Philip Horsfall has extensive experience in teaching, examining, writing and inspection. Currently working as a PGCE tutor in the Department of Educational Studies at York University, he has written a range of GCSE textbooks.

Most Helpful Customer Reviews   3.0 out of 5 stars Captado: Student Book, 14 Jun 2004 By A Customer This review is from: Captado!: Student Book Bk. 1 (Paperback) Although this book is well structured and fairly user-friendly, I have found several areas where the production is sloppy. e.g. Unidad Dos, the section on family members, the photographs used do not precisely reflect the family members referred to on the tape. This results in confusion,discouragement and possible demoralisation of the student at a time when (s)he is beginning to build confidence. The tape quality is also rather variable - sometimes 'fuzzy', sometimes the speech is too fast. The grammar and study tips are very useful.
