False dichotomy. Capitalism certifiably kills and is still happening - do not settle for a lesser EVIL! I just think you need to study more, this is the usual over generalization promoted which creates a sort of cynicism. Remember that "communism" you talk about can be described as: state capitalism, bureaucratic collectivism and oligarchical totalitarianism. This is of course tautological speak for what is the same absurd authoritarian system. If you study the Russian Revolution, you can see why it went wrong, how worse Stalinism is from Leninism etc. But all this draws from the "dictatorship of the proletariat" idea of having a massive government (which is meant to make things equal before dissolving) criticized at its inception by Mikhail Bakunin, who predicted exactly what would happen. Of course, if you take Marx's description of communism as a "stateless, classless, egalitarian society" you can see not one of these central tenants is met in any Soviet-style takeovers. What history does show, is that workers ownership and self management is successful (versus state control or bourgeois control) and that bottom up structures such as participatory communities within a federalist framework based on free, voluntary association can help avert the corrupt decisions made within elite spheres of power (which corrupts). Of course, this is from the viewpoint of an anarchist, but if you look at anarchist history and some of its successes, more notably Spain within the 1936 revolution, I cannot see why you cannot become inspired that a better world is possible. "Communism" in relation to your premise, is worse than capitalism. Both have genocidal, oppressive, exploitative hierarchal societies - but there is a third way which is a truer form of socialism than the USSR ever was.
