Review

'Gillian Tett, in her book Fool's Gold, has produced a thorough, journalistic account of the causes of the global financial crisis. This book's strength is as an analytical study of the instruments themselves and ... its aim – to provide a thorough understanding of financial markets – deserves a wide audience. It is not only bankers, regulators and politicians who need to understand the world of complex financial instruments. Journalists and academics also have a duty to comprehend and explain.' - from the Foreword, Vincent Cable, MP for Twickenham& Liberal Democrat Deputy Leader and Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer.

Product Description

The third edition of Capital Market Instruments: Analysis and Valuation is a fully revised and updated guide to the most important products in use in the financial markets today, providing clear understanding of key concepts, mathematical techniques and market analysis. There is detailed coverage of debt and equity products and market conventions, illustrated with worked examples and case studies of events in the industry. The book is accompanied by web-based software for a yield curve construction model, enabling readers to set up an Excel application to calculate spot and forward interest rates. In this new edition, all chapters are updated to reflect the latest market developments. There is also a succinct analysis of the 2007-2008 financial crisis, with lessons learned and recommendations for market practitioners.

The authors have extensive experience in investment banking, quantitative analysis, bond trading and risk management, and provide valuable insight and understanding of the financial markets.

There are many books available on capital markets. The thing that usually distingiushes one from another is how accessible its content is.
This book not only provides good content but it makes the content highly accessible. There are loads of examples, diagrams and formula that helped me come to grips with market instruments. The C++ source code provided with the yield curve programme is really helpfull in gaining a practical insight into a yeild curve implementation. If you really want to understand yield curve construction its all there."

Basic 5 Jan 2004
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
This is a basic book that may be good for new people in the market, but professionals will find this lacking.

Poor coverage 24 Feb 2004
By Soner Tunay - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
This is a very introductory book for practitioners who do not know the very basics, such as 'models', 'regression', etc.
The content overlaps with the author's other text Bond Market Securities. Corresponding chapters are identical.
Better alternatives are Jarrow, Hull.

Excellent book for new recruits 24 Jan 2002
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Because it covers most of the financial instruments that we are dealing on our trading floor, we have decided to offer it as a gift to all new recruits.
It is always difficult for new comers to quickly become knowledgeable about many financial instruments at the same time.

"Capital Market Instruments: Analysis and Valuation" provides all the necessary information to help them become real practitionners within a short time frame.

I would personnaly recommand this book.
