Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

A multi-battle action fighting game based on the award-winning Onimusha world, Onimusha Blade Warriors challenges players to battle with up to three other human opponents or play a single-player game against computer-controlled opponents. Onimusha Blade Warriors brings together for the first time famed Japanese actors Takeshi Kaneshiro (as Samanouske Akechi from Onimusha: Warlords) and the late Yusaku Matsuda (known for his role in the 1989 film Black Rain, as Jubei Yagyu from Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny) as the main characters in the title.

Title really says it all, it's not a good game, by a long way. It's slow, repetitive, the learning curve is about as steep as the road leading out of hell and it's just not very entertaining. It is, however, part of the series, and part of the story, so if you want to buy it from a collector's perspective, I'd advise you do, there's nothing quite like owning all of the Onimusha games and being able to see them all standing to attention, side by side. I was, despite my general negativity, impressed with the fact that you can actually load your data from this game in Onimusha 3, gaining a measure of the souls you obtained in Blade Warriors, which was kinda cool really, and very unexpected.

I have waited for a game of this type for quite a while now. I was once even TEMPTED to buy a Gamecube for the SSBM version of this. It's basically a four player hack'n'slash, pitting you against friend or foe in the ultimate four player fighting experience!

You can take control of one of any of the many fighters and head to victory. There are enemies from Onimusha 1 & 2 and the 'good' non-demonic characters too. Is there news of the enemies or Jean (?) from Onimusha 3? I hope so.

There are many terrains to fight on too. It has been rumoured that there are TEN(!) fully interactive backgrounds but if they include things from Onimusha 3 expect a whole lot more.

As this is called Onimusha: Blade Warriors there is no chance of seeing any characters from other Capcom games. And there's another downfall. Capcom could've stuck characters in from other slash'em'up games, but they're only object is your cash.

So as we near the end of this preview I give you my OFFICIAL VERDICT BOX!

Graphics :- Well presented and fully interactive | 9
Gameplay :- SSBM on PS2...Drools... | 9
Sound :- Grunting and Japanese taunts sound cool | 7
Lifespan :- This is a party game...endless! | 10

OFFICIAL VERDICT: Well it's shaping up well, but my only complaint is it's only Onimusha characters. Bummer. | 9/10

Not a SSMB beater 21 Jun 2004
By AndyB
How can you say that this even measures up to smash bro's. It doesnt even beat the original, it is a let down, it is slow. Not enough time went into makin the game. Bein able to play as the cool onimusha characters is a good point, there is a good multiplayer value. The Graphics are good but the gameplay isnt great. U wanna game like this? Buy a cube and get smash bro's melee, loads better and more hours worth of fun. If you cant do that it is an ok game i suppose, there is alot of fun beatin up the character u dont like, it will please onimusah fans but might not please newcomers to the series.
