Amazon.co.uk Review

Unfairly ignored when it was released on the PlayStation 2, Okami gets a second chance on the Wii, a platform where it shines even brighter. The best Zelda-style game not to come from Nintendo, you control the sun goddess Amaterasu in wolf form and help her bring colour back to an ancient version of Japan cursed into darkness. The already innovative combat is improved further thanks to the Wii’s controls, and the game remains one of the longest and most-varied adventures ever seen. The stunning graphics, which look like moving watercolours, elevate Okami above other games into a true work of art.

Product Description

In Okami, the legendary monster Orochi has come back to life and turned the world into a veritable wasteland. Players must assume the role of a wolf, an embodiment of the sun god Amaterasu, which is capable of wielding unimaginable power. The state of the world lies in your hands as you must fight ominous beings and reclaim the earth from a curse that plagues it. It is crucial to help Amaterasu make the world a place where all living creatures can dwell once again. Defeating the creatures that Amaterasu encounters will not be a small feat. The real-time fighting system not only involves biting and ramming strikes, but also allows for various attacks using bronze mirror of Yata on its back as well as a host of other unique abilities. This system allows the usage of a myriad of specials attacks typically not associated with the physical prowess of a normal wolf. As the wolf becomes more powerful, more attacks become available. This blend of stylized graphics and unique gameplay will result in a rich and dynamic experience never seen before. Traditional Japanese art comes alive through beautiful scenic 3D levels Rooted in the third person perspective, you will need to interact with the people you encounter, building their faith by clandestinely answering their prayers and wishes

  • Create and destroy at will - Play as a god to re-establish order and beauty to a world laid barren by evil
  • Intense action-packed battles - Rooted in Japanese folklore, fight against a diverse line-up of demons and monsters
  • Interact with a unique and dynamic cast of characters

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply wonderful., 13 Jun 2008

Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
I've only had this a day, so I haven't even come close to finishing it. I'm about four hours in and I have to say that in those four hours Okami has more style, character, joy and fun packed into it than the vast majority of tripe and generic sandbox games out there(not naming names)and is such a joy that I can't believe I'd never bothered to play it on my mates' PS2. I'm not gonna waffle, I'll just urge you to purchase this game and help it find the audience it so richly deserves.

The visuals are still mindblowing (especially in HD), the soundtrack is rich and the controls, whilst needing a bit of getting used to, are great. The Wii Remote controlled Celestial Brush is clearly an improvement over the PS2's analogue stick and everything else, you name it, it's effin marvellous.

So please. Buy this game and get ready to find out why videogames are so brilliant. If more games like this were made, the world be a much happier place.

5.0 out of 5 stars Okami, a hidden gem., 15 Jun 2008

Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
What can I say... I bought this game on a whim after completing Zelda: TP as I had a hunger for an adventure game and it's absolutely stunning. There's some lovely scenery, the gameplay is absolutely superb, the control system is drool-worthy, the battles are well implemented and offers a great interim from exploring the vast and varied lands and if that wasn't enough the character implemention is second-to-none.

For £30 a Wii owner really cannot afford to miss out on Okami.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth the Wait, 18 Jun 2008
Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
I've been waiting for this ever since it came out on the PS2. Put simply this is a very original, beautiful, engrossing, fun game. Don't listen to the idiots who have moaned about the controls, I'm only an occasional gamer and I've have had no trouble once I got the hang of them (which took about 10 minutes and surely any new game takes a *little* practice to really nail).
Please don't let this become an underappreciated classic the way it was on the PS2, spend your money supporting a game with imagination rather than the next MMORPG, FPS or RTS that comes along.
