having played the versus series in the arcade before I instantly boughtthis game and it instantly took up 99% of my xbox playtime after that..ifyour old school and can hadoken/dragon punch/hurricane kick then this gameis SF on speed..lots of speed...soo fast, which appealed to me greatly!(that and the re-enacting of superheros clashing
once you learn thebasic mechanics of the fighting and combo system, this becomes a game thatkeeps on giving...hit your opponent hard with rather large blue beam ofenergy, then tag ryu out and Iron man in mid-move and continue to pummelthem with an even larger beam of energy, before maybe enjoying the quirkyamusing side of the game by trampling your character to death with about40 legomen style servbots...switching bewteen hypers and using assistsfrom your other characters means it's not just picking the bestcharacters...it eventually comes down to the best team...and with 56characters, there are quite a lot of team combinations outthere!..although the game is a 2d fighter, quite pixelated, and oftenunbalanced character-wise...this is a game with unmatched longevity (in myopinion) and as the button setup has been altered it makes it moreaccessible to newbies and is fantastic for casual play--for best resultsget some like minded mates round, teach them how to play, and see how longit takes them to leave!--the first 9 months I had this game I clocked atleast 300 hours of playtime, although cos I never counted I bet it is awhole lot more than that-- learn how to do Street fighter moves (if youdon't know already), buy this game, and enjoy-- simple as that!!-- thisgame is comic book style action, with a touch of manga/anime (if you likethings like dragonball Z and ninja action-you should like this game)actionthrown in..and if you played Street Fighter or any similar games, thenbeing able to obtain 200+(if I remember correctly my P.B is 238) hit teamhyper combos will surely appeal!--I can't recommend this game highlyenough to beat-em-up fans..fast and complex, yet still simple toplay...easy to learn, difficult to perfect! --even if it is a 2Dfighter..and just remember a good game is a good game, regardless ofpolygon counts/trilinear filtering, etc!
Buy this--buy this now--it'sbeen out for a while so be cheap to find second hand--Try amazon.com's funthings--great!!

I am a great fan of the old style 2d beatemups and Marvel vs Capcom 2 doesn't dissapoint.
Although it might seem a bit dated for the 3d gamer, in true Capcom style it is a solid hyper kinetic fighting game.

The huge cartoon graphics and sublime animation make it a visual feast.

I meean, the hulk fighting spiderman ?
Ryu fighting Wolverine ?
Ken and Cyclops fighting Magnito and Megaman ?

Even if you are not normally tempted by 2 dimensional fighting games, this is well worth a try.

With the simple to activate special moves to the huge multi-hit combos, there is plenty here to apeal to casual and hardcore gamers alike.

One point I would make though is that it is much more accessable with the new smaller X-Box pad.

Fun:
Marvel vs capcom 2 is a bit of a mixed bag. On the one hand it's the final result of a long line of street fighter vs games, which on paper sounds like every fanboys dream come true, the only problem is once you get into it the flaws stick out like a sore thumb. For starters for a game with over 50 playable characters, it's pretty embarrassing how over half of them are not even worth using if you're in anything other then a casual sparring match, ask anyone who plays this game at a pro level and they'll aggree with me. Cable alone for example can do the same damage in one combo as other entire 3 member teams can only do on a triple team attack, considering he's not even a boss character, to call the character roster unbalanced would be an understatement. Capcom also made some other really weird choices in this game, such as nearly every stage having jazz music as the backing track and although the 3 on 3 vs concept is really entertaining to watch, when you're in control there's just some strange feeling to this game that it all feels rushed somehow with all the combo and special move bugs you can exploit.

In terms of concept marvel vs capcom is an epic classic, but compared to other titles like the alpha series and 3rd strike it really is style on the surface over substance. Every fighting gamer should play this especially the vs mode for the full effect (yep... even the ai has bugs you can exploit, try spamming fireballs when they start blocking and you'll see what I mean) but in the end unless you're a die hard fan of one of the franchises, once you've unlocked your favorite character(s) the novelty gets lost pretty quick and even more so if you have no-one to play it with.
