By the end of the game though you will have unlocked over a hundred moves and fought the strangest rogues gallery in gaming, from a puppy kicking dominatrix to a giant wrestling gorilla and a bunch of midget Power Ranger clones. The games music is just as bizarre with a cheesy rock sound track and even a laugh track to accompany the various pratfalls. If you ever wondered what a beat em-up made by Vic Reeves would look like, this is it. Beneath all the surrealism though there is depth as you dodge attacks with the right analogue stick for a brief boost of invulnerability. You also have to learn to daze larger opponents before doing real damage and pace your use of special moves for otherwise impossible bosses. Theres method in the games madness and a welcome shelter from the often wearying banality of other games.
HARRISON DENT
Centuries ago, the world was in imminent doom until a man defeated Angra and sealed away his godly powers into his own arms. People feared and revered this person who would become known as "God Hand". Legend has it that anyone who acquired such hands would possess immense power that could turn them into a deity or demon. Fast forward to a small town overrun with thugs wielding super-human strength. A gruff drifter named Gene finds his way to this troubled region and defends a woman surrounded by a brutal mob. Despite his valiant efforts, Gene is overpowered by these thugs and his right arm is severed before falling unconscious. He later awakens to find his limb whole again and that he is now the possessor of the legendary "God Hand". The burden of being hunted by demonic legions seeking the right hand of God soon begins.
In God Hand, it`s judgment day as players assume the role of Gene as he tries to ward off the demons that seek to obtain the coveted appendage. Although he may have been granted the strength of the almighty, keeping these foes at bay won`t be easy as evil approaches from all directions for the ultimate showdown. Fortunately with a vast repertoire of moves, delivering deadly blows and crushing attacks has never been so satisfying. Disintegrate every enemy into the very dust that blows through the town and exorcise the evil spirits that possess the locals by unleashing the power of the God Hand. With nearly limitless combo possibilities, gamers can juggle enemies in the air and obliterate them with spectacular finishing moves. It`s Armageddon time!

An ode to the fighting genre,

This game is funNeed I say anymore? Well if you like fighting and gambling buy this. The buttons are simple with not complex moves. There is a variety of bad guys to fight and some entertaining music as background. What other game gives you the opportunity to fight a great big fat hairy demon called Elvis to the backdrop of some bizarre tribute music. The plot is simple. You are a wandering hero - given the `God-Hand' after your arm was removed in a pathetically one-sided fight. You are travelling with a girl called Olivia who nags you to save various villages and fight against the demons. The controls are simple and good. Once the game gets going you can buy a variety of new techniques and power ups. For those you that want to expand your pounds there is a casino to visit to gamble away your money. As you progress so does the casino. There are fighting & practice rings to hone skills and win awards. The game is very tongue in cheek, with nice graphics. It is at heart an ode to all fighting games and you are there to do one thing - fight. This is good entertainment.

Humorous and comically violent - good fun!,

What I liked most about God Hand was the range of moves (there are over 100) and how you can use so many different objects to do damage. Unlike many such games where you roam about hitting people, in this one you don't do exactly the same attacks over and over again - it's much more fluid and intelligently handled, in the way that you don't have to learn complicated button combinations but can still do impressive and varied attacks. The game also has a good (if dark) sense of humour, a scene in particular which stuck in my mind is one involving smacking of the bottom of an enemy! As a veteran gamer I did feel it was a bit simplified and traditional (in the way that you just go around getting into fights) but that's what it's trying to do, and it does achieve this aim (of being a straightforward, pick up and play, fun, comically violent title). If you like action, martial arts and throwing objects about then God Hand is well worth checking out. It's from Capcom, one of the best developers/publishers in the world and it shows - you can't go wrong with Capcom.
