Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review:

In a nutshell:
Freelance photographer Frank West is stuck in a shopping centre full of zombies and he’s only got 72 hours to escape. How he manages that feat is entirely up to you, with his fate, that of dozens of other survivors and a legion of the walking dead entirely in your hands.

The lowdown:
Since this is basically an unofficial video game remake of Dawn of the Dead it tries to recreate all the major elements from the movie, including scenes with hundreds of zombies on screen at once. Given free reign in the shopping centre there are 250 different objects you can use to dispatch them but in the end escape is your own really option. The question is how you manage it and whether you properly investigate what’s going, try and help other survivors or photograph their demise in an attempt to win a Pulitzer. Although helping the survivors involves some fairly dull escort mission the only real flaw is the oddly strict save system which won’t let you save more than once. It’s not nearly enough to spoil the fun of a good zombie massacre though.

Most exciting moment:
Undoubtedly the best fun in the game is, much like Grand Theft Auto, not completing the missions but just mucking around – which inevitably involves attacking zombies with everything from a lawnmower to ladies’ handbags. Doing so with a cartoon head on and a pair of hotpants raises the level of surreal fun even further.

Since you ask:
Although officially the game is nothing to do with Resident Evil, the game contains a number of sly references to the series. One of the more subtle is the sandwich bar “Jill’s Sandwiches”, named after the famously awful line of dialogue in the original Resident Evil game.

The bottom line:
An action game with zombies, weapons and options by the hundreds.
HARRISON DENT

Manufacturer's Description
Dead Rising follows the harrowing tale of Frank West, an overly zealous freelance photojournalist on the hunt for the scoop of a lifetime. In pursuit of a juicy lead, he makes his way to a small suburban town only to find that it has become overrun by zombies. He escapes to the local shopping mall, thinking it will be a bastion of safety yet it turns out to be anything but. It will be a true struggle to survive the endless stream of enemies, but players will have full reign of a realistic shopping centre, utilizing anything they find to fight off the flesh-hungry mob and search for the truth behind the horrendous epidemic.

Dead Rising features an open level of freedom and offers a vast array of gameplay possibilities. As part of a real time system, time is dynamic in Dead Rising, marching on whether Frank is actively engaged or if simply stationary. Time also plays a role as zombies become more powerful when the sun goes down. Though they move slowly during the day, the zombies become stronger and faster at night, making it even more dangerous for players to survive. The unprecedented numbers of enemies come in never-ending waves and consist of a diverse population of former humans that have retained some memory of their previous lives, which is reflected in their behaviour and appearance. The variety of different stores in the mall offers players an endless supply of resources including vehicles, makeshift weapons and more. Players will also encounter other survivors along the way and by helping them can acquire valuable clues as to what has happened.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bring on the Blood!!!, 21 Feb 2007

Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
In this game you play as a journalist called Frank West and you are left in a shopping mall to take pictures and gather stories...and Oh yea, the mall is full of zombies. After a few cutscenes, your 72 hour notice of when the helicoptor will be back to pick you up is set and then your off to do whatever you like.
Some people may be put off by the fact that there is a time limit, but its not as if you are going to be in constant worry that you are going to miss the chopper because 72 hours of game time is still many hours of real time gameplay.
You can tackle this game in many different ways, you can stick to the main story and try to uncover the causes for the zombie outbreak, you can go about rescuing survivors, or you can just go exploring and killing and basically causing as much mayhem as possible. Each of these poses different opportunities and rewards and therefore leads to a game with incredible replayability value. I love the shopping mall, because its big, but not too big. This is good because you dont get that dreaded feeling of its too big to explore properly. So after many hours of gameplay, you may end up learning where things are hidden and the most efficient way to get from place to place, and this in my opinion gives a real sense of achievement.
I must admit, it does take a while to get into the game because of the contols and the fact that you are so weak at the start. But keep playing and you'll soon be enjoying it.
Some people found it difficult at the start of the game, but you will progress up to level 10-15 quite quickly and in doing so, the game will become easier to play. This RPG like system allows you to unlock more skills, health bars and item slots and a good thing about this is, if you die, you can start a brand new game with your previous stats.
Some people have critisised the lack of save points in Dead Rising. I think that you just need to know where to find them. Learn where the save points are and you shouldn't have a problem. I advise that you do this as soon as possible because if you die, its back to the last save i'm afraid.
People have also critisised the small on screen text, when recieving phone calls, talking to characters and examining objects. This wont apply to people with HDTV.
Now lets focus on how much fun this game is... in this game, pretty much anything is a weapon from bowling balls to lawnmowers and from cooking oil to toy laser swords, as well as guns and blades. You will most probably spend hours just running around killing zombies in loads of different ways. and if thats not enough you can go into loads of clothes shops and dress Frank how you like. Believe me when I say there are some hilarious costumes out there.
Dead rising is special, its got a great story, fantastic graphics and a fantastic atmosphere about it as well as its fair share of dark humour. and if you get bored doing the missions, why not explore, if you get bored of exploring kill some more zombies. It is very hard to get bored on this game in my opinion. Once you truly get into dead rising, you are going to be addicted to this for quite some. Definetely worth the money, one of the few truly fantastic games out on 360 to date.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bloody good bloody fun., 30 Jan 2007

Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This is a game that requires concentration and persistence. Put in the hours and the game comes to life in a way that is very addictive. It may not satisfy the 'I need a quick shoot 'em / bash 'em fix' but it is certainly one of the most original games for the 360.

I have completed the game 4 times now and have unlocked almost all of the achievements (zombie genocider being the most satifying = 55,000 bodycount, yes that 1000 times 55!). This game excels in its intensity. Stuck in a crowd of zombies with a limping survivor and limited weaponry? Think hard on how you are going to get to the security room. By the time you get there you will be breathing a big sigh of relief.

Graphics are good but not excellent but how many other games have hundreds of 'intelligent' zombies on-screen at any one moment?

If you don't like edge of your seat missions with rigid timescales then steer clear of this game. If, like me, you love blood and gore galore, then saddle up, lock and load and kick zombie bottom in a huge variety of humorous ways.

4.0 out of 5 stars Dead Rising - The Honest Review, 6 Feb 2008
Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
Hi everyone, today im going to review Dead Rising on the 360 for you all as i usually do in all my reviews i will go through the catagories STORY, GAMEPLAY , GRAPHICS, OVERALL, and MULTIPLAYER (if any). Lets get started.

Dead Rising is capcom's (Resident Evil n DMC series) new zombie horror fest game in which you play as a photojournalist named Frank West who must survive 3 days in a zombie infested shopping mall what you do within those 3 days is down to you.

STORY:
Dead Rising see's a small American town plauged by flesh eating zombies, Frank West (photojournalist) gets news of a strange incident and investigates to get the scoop, he arrives by chopper due to the roads being blocked off by the army but as mysterys unfold in the mall Frank finds himself in the middle of a huge conspiracy.

GAMPLAY:
Dead Rising is unique compared to Capcoms Resident Evil series they have focused more on a free roam aspect and the ability to use anything you can find as a weapon it's great in theory unfortunatly towards the opening of the game most areas of the mall are locked/shut so you have to do missions to open them which isnt bad really but when the cases involve waiting for hours on end just to do a small objective it can get very boring
( e.g. when you get a case it says "NEXT CASE WILL OCCUR AT 6:00AM and sometimes this just for a cut scene and then having to wait another few hours is frustrating).
Thankfully there is plenty of undead and psycho paths walking the mall to get rid of, survivors are present but the AI is poor e.g, if they see a swarm of zombies or a safe path they will run into the swarm of zombies unarmed and die. That aside the controls of the game are very easy to use and the camera works better than most Capcom games the controls are very easy to get use to.
If you have a standard definition TV you might be abit annoyed by the small blurry txt that comes up every time you get a call but unfortunatly you have to read them( due to the fact that they didnt include voices in these phone calls), but if you dont want to you can just set a way point marker to the scoop and follow it.
I enjoyed Dead Rising but i think improvments could of been made but that doesnt mean its bad beacuse its a really good game and addictive if its your first time.
RPG fans will like this game too as you get rewarded new abilities for PP (picture points) or escorting survivors the maximum level is 50 and it will take a while to fully level up.

GRAPHICS:
Dead Rising is visually brilliant all the characters are well renderd and animated they look almost like real people, the mall itself is incredibly detailed with real time effects such as lighting and water features etc. The zobies actually look really good in this game considering theres so many on screen at once sure they look the same but would you really wanna animate different zombies a million times over? lol by the same i dont mean your gonna see only one zombie i mean more like GTA games for example. they sue the same skins but just multiply them.
The cutscenes look brilliant in this game and character detail is fine.

OVERALL:
Dead Rising will appeal to people that either love zombie games or those who love dawn of the dead, unfortunatly if your looking for scares this isnt what your looking for as its just not got the horror factor that Resident Evil had.
But theplot is great and its still a great game and is worth buying with 6 endings to collect and loads of different playing styles this is bound to keep you busy for a few months i'll give dead rising a 7 out of 10 simply because i think some changes could have been done to make this feel more like a action horror game.

Thanks for reading hope this was helpful to you
