Disappointing 12 July 2009
Format:Paperback
Without phonetic help this book proved to be useless and far too complicated for a beginner to get their head around. I left it at home and didn't need it in the end as it transpired everyone I met in Hong Kong happily spoke English.
Don't waste your money.

I have found this a helpful book. Cantonese is known as a difficult language to learn, using different tones to form words, but the pronounciation system in this book is as clear as any other I have seen. The grammar section is helpful. The book has stayed in my bag for reference. Many people in Hong Kong speak good English, but will appreciate your efforts in Cantonese :)

I can speak and read some Cantonese (albeit not too fluently) and bought this to improve my ability. There are some typos which appear. However, there are many categories to look over, Cantonese-English and vice versa dictionaries and it's colourful too. The pronunciations can be quite hard to grasp so it might be useful to get a native to help you.
