Amazon Verified Purchase
Somehow, Ten Holt has taken repetitive, minimal music and created something sublime. Canto Ostinato is a wave that takes three hours to wash over you. This is closer to Bach than to Arvo Pärt, because you can work to this music. From time to time, something will arise from the music into the foreground to take your attention, then it recedes again.
This is a remastered version of the original live recording which has been deleted for years. The only difference is that there is no introductory applause, so it's not obvious that it's live until the very end.
As with the previous release, the music is faded out and in at the transitions between discs, which is great if you are changing cds, but a shame if you have ripped this music to your pc/ipod and are listening to it in a single three hour stream, as I do. Lose half a star.

I discovered this some years ago on a trip to Amsterdam where a dear lady in small classical music shop recommended it. We took a chance. What a discovery! Other reviewers have described the effect of this music as going on a rollercoaster, or having to just let it wash over you. This may be minimalism, but it is lyrical, melodic and simply gorgeous, and the four piano format is a stunning concept. He has written several other long compositions for four pianos, and they are all nice in their own way, but this one stands out as, what shall I say, heavenly, sublime and totally unique. So great news that apparently it is now re-packaged and re-released, and therefore more accessible than before.
