This box bundles two films from writer/director Shamim Sarif - both featuring her gorgeous 'stock' actresses Lisa Ray & Sheetal Sheth - plus the uber-cool soundtrack to 'I Can't Think Straight', which plays like a WOMAD for female singer-songwriters.
Of the two movies, 'The World Unseen' is easily the better, benefitting from restrained performances and lush cinematography. Set amid the rampant bigotry of apartheid South Africa in the '50s, it plays out a complex tangle of relationships in a world dominated by fear and racism, very reminiscent of 'Fried Green Tomatoes'. 'I Can't Think Straight' is less assured, being a lesbian rom-com that meanders between Jordan and the UK, which suffers from patchy acting and the shameless stealing of jokes and ideas from (better) films such as 'Imagine Me & You' and 'But I'm a Cheerleader'. However, the undoubted chemistry between Ray & Sheth (who may be the world's sexiest onscreen couple) is enough to carry any film, and this set is highly recommended.
